After his feint together with his age and inability to score (still think he works hard though) who is going to pay him anywhere near what he's getting here? And we'd still have to pay his signing on fee!
Whether we keep him or not, a quality striker should be our top priority in the summer window. I'd also like to see us sign a decent backup striker too.
Absolutely - it may be a case of getting what we can for Gomis and taking a hit on the fee, which is why I thought we should have taken any sane offer in January. Summer signings could be interesting and will be hugely dependent on who leaves!
I hear the calls for Emnes over Gomis but his inclusion would create other issues imo. Emnes achilles heel, imo, is he can't play effectively as a target man as he's not big or strong enough to hold up the ball with his back is to goal, which is vital facet of our game. Gomis is more effective in that position. On the flip sideimo, Emnes is a better striker than Gomis as he is quick over short distances and more nimble than Gomis so has a tighter turning circle. And therin lies our problem. Our game asks a lot from our front man who needs to be a cross between old style centre forward, target man and striker; not asking for much are we? There is an mathematical equation we can apply to solves this problem. Using the variables we once knew it resolved as follows Gomis + Emnes = Bony This solution no longer applies and so we have to re-ally all variables. In doing so the new equation resolves like this Gomis + Emnes = Aleksadar Motrivic. Imho, we have to win the race to sign Mitrovic, if we want to continue with our way. The way we play means reinventing the role of the front man to include all the positives and benefits of old positions, target man/striker etc, and merging them into one composite front man. Unfortunately, richer teams are sniffing around Mitrovic so we have to be wary of this and maybe look to sign sooner rather than later. Its not that Mitrovic is extra special, its just that he has the attributes WE need to perform well as a composite striker. He would suit us perfectly imo but if we sign him he'll be our most expensive signing to date.
Our history signing strikers since our arrival in the PL hasn't been bad up to now, we have just signed a wrongun this time and we will find it very difficult to get rid of him, unless we take a big hit financially. I believe that is what we will probably have to do to get rid of him. From minute one in a Swans shirt I have seen absolutely nothing in him that made me think he was going to be a good signing. Time to cut our losses and then sign 2 new strikers. If we could afford him would love Charlie Austin, scoring for a piss poor QPR side.
Play Emnes and Gomis together some thing we haven't seen for a long time but two strikers working off each other , but that would mean quality balls into the box , which incidentally something which we did with ease last night certainly in the1st half
The problem is we should keep on backing him in every game he plays in the hope something clicks with him and he gets amongst the goals because if we dont then i can see him being the No1 striker next season. We need him to be able to attract some interest from other clubs who can afford to pay his wages.
