I know, mate- we're all on the same side (apart from our esteemed guests:)) , and we all have our own opinions as to what we need to do. As I said above, I think we're going to have to compete at the very top for a while before we regain the attraction to the top players that we once had.
Our recent failings in the transfer market have shown this.
On the other hand, we, and others, have shown that a well organised group of "second level" players working as a team can compete with a group of big-name individuals.

  3. Unless your Bayern, Barca or Real, getting a quality all round keeper is near on impossible. There is only one keeper in this country that is in that top category of goalkeepers and unfortunately he plays for our opponents <grr>

Shot stopping will be number one priority for all teams. Beyond that, most teams have to choose the attributes that are most important. For us, dealing with high balls was and continues to be a issue so having a keeper that deals with those crosses and set pieces is important. Being able to play would be a benefit too but not as much IMO.

  4. Not the same which is why I put "I don't mind that bit" <doh>

You put "play pass the parcel with it for a bit" which means they've passed it about a bit before giving it back to Migs. IMO that is fine as they've tried to play it out.

At some point, we'll have to pay the money to get the big names here......as Arsenal have. That said, we'
Utd, City, Chelsea (2) all have keepers that fall into that category.

There are some quality keepers out there - Kevin Trapp from Germany is one of the best young keepers out there and would be relatively cheap.

Also, the passing around at the back has eased up since Sakho and Can came into the defence - both are able to get the ball, carry it forward and find the right pass.

When it was just Skrtel and Lovren, it was awful and pointless passing.

De Gea / Valdes and Courtois / Cech are the two best GK partnerships in the league.

Our GK situation has always been weak as, meaning we only ever have one quality keeper at a time, Reina before Minger, Dudek before Reina, James before Dudek, Grobbelaar before James. It's just club tradition :emoticon-0140-rofl:

If we look at this season, it's the 'cheaper' signings that have saved this team:

    Coutinho £8m
    Sakho £18m
    Can £10m
    Migs £10m
    Moreno £11m

The ones who have let us down are the expensive players i.e. Lallana and Lovren.

We don't need to spend big - we just need to spend better. Rodgers simply needs to stay out of the process.

  9. City...? <laugh>

They all have quality keepers but I'm talking about the very very top quality keepers.

  13. Sorry, but it very amusing that in the cheaper ones you have Sakho (whoy ou love) at £18m whereas in the expensive category you have Lovren (who you detest) at £20m. That £2m quite important then...? <laugh>

  15. Well yes but when it comes to keepers people always say they want them to be able to do everything but they usually specialise in one aspect, not all. Only the very best keepers can do it all.

Because when we signed Sakho, he wasn't a marquee signing who came with this tag of 'leader' who would transform the defence.

And despite all of that, one of the above 2 actually is a quality player.

  17. So you meant expectation rather than expense <ok>

No way is Caballero top class, he's just Pellegrini's love-child. They're in the same situation as us keeper-wise

    We need 2 good keepers.

Migs has been very good but I don't agree with buying a 'backup'. We need quality.

Have 2 first team keepers and let them compete - or fight to the death.
