Agreed Josh, we should throw in the few deflections we've had too, plus a couple of penalties. Goals from open play are not happening enough, we should be scoring multiple goals in most matches, and winning games from open play and good football. IMO, any team that plays 1 lone striker up front are not picking an attacking team unless they have 3 or 4 other strikers in their midfield. Watford showed us how it's done with 2 strikers, who both sit on around 17 goals each so far. and have 3 players over double figures in the top 15 list of goal scorers. Watford have score 76 goals so far, only recently being over taken by Bournemouth on 78. 6th place Brentford have scored 59 goals so far, this is what we need to achieve if we are to have any hope of promotion next season; with the present midfield and strikers Redders plays, not going to happen imo.
Agree with pretty much everything except the one lone striker stuff. Some of the best teams in the world play with one lone striker - Bayern, Madrid, Chelsea, even Barcelona to an extent. The thing we're lacking with the present formation is the goal-scoring wingers. I think two up top is probably best for us purely because we don't have the players to pull 4-2-3-1 off properly. If only we still had Snoddy and Gradel...
Wishfull thinking Kiwi I know, but we can't go back in past. If Redders had pulled off getting Becchio back here then he would've been forced into changing back to 2 strikers, I think Becchio would've scored quite a few by now, he had a knack in front of goal.
If we're going to persist with 1 up front, I agree that Morison is not the man to take us forward (and most definitely Sharp isn't either!). I can't help thinking that Smith might be the answer for that formation. Thoughts? There's also the outside chance he'll be very cheap if Fulham go down (fingers crossed!)
Ffs it didn't take long for someone to get all wishful. Stop wanting to bring ex players back. It will be greedy **** and Alan smith next. How many footballers are there in the world? We don't need to resign the same ones more than once.
I'm not really one to wish for old players, tbh. Smith on the other hand is recent, and was an unexpected loss for me. He was still a work in progress (still is!), but offers a lot more than Morison in a 451, or even 442 (433 is pushing it!). It's a recent mistake, and not too late to rectify.
I agree with you to a certain extent WJ, I liked Smith, a hell of a lot more than moaning McContract, and had he come earlier to us I think he could've scored a lot more goals. I still think we have the players we need to push for promo next season, but Redders needs to stop being stubborn, arrogant and purposely blind.
Yeah cos he would love to go back to a club that showed him the door. Can the real WJ come back.... Whoever is posting from the account today is taking the piss.
Even if we signed Ribery and Robben, Morison would still be useless May as well give Cani a few games to see what he can do. Most people are saying he's not all that but he's only just arrived. He might even score a goal
I'd definitely take Smith back. As you say, he was an unexpected loss and would've suited this 4-5-1/4-2-3-1 formation perfectly. I know it was only in league 1 but he was banging on the goals for Bristol City earlier this year, and now he's back at Fulham he's scoring too. Not really sure why we ever let him leave - at the time, I heard it was something to do with Cellino not liking tall, target man centre forwards, but then why sign Cani?
I don't really rate Smith that highly. Great as an impact sub or an alternative option for a game or two but he is not good enough to play up front, especially on his own for the whole season more or less. A lone striker needs to be a mix between the small fast tricky striker and the big hold the ball up kinda striker, either one doesn't work on their own up front imo. Morison is a mix between the two in a way but just nowhere near prolific enough. I think Doukara could work as a lone striker but there is no one else we have. I do want to stick with this formation though, used to be such a big fan of the 4-4-2 but I have definitely changed my opinion, its old and out dated and opposition teams can easily control the midfield.
