Yeah, it didn't get any better on the forum during his reign either. Man we've put up with a lot of crap over the last few years.

I think the Jewell years were mostly a unanimous stream of despair and criticism.

I have backed every manager until imo they have no chance of 'coming good'....?..but With Magilton I never felt he could do much for us.........at the time I thought Keane no nonsense approach was what we needed as we were a team people liked to play against ie. We would pass around nicely and then let them win.........but alas I was wrong.

Jim actually did some good things. Separating himself from the players wasn't one of them though. Plus, his washboard forehead always used to make me laugh during interviews <laugh>

Getting to a League Cup semi-final was a decent achievement, I'll always concede that. The league form was terrible though, absolutely terrible. And the wasted £11m.

We went nearly a whole season unbeaten at home.
He definitely had that Roylesque 'we'll score more than you and screw defending' approach.

Sorry San Diego, read your earlier comment as 'Roy actually did some good things' rather than 'Jim actually did some good things'.

But yeah, agreed regarding Jim. Good home record and some attractive, attacking football being played. Just a shame about his transfer record when Evans came in.

If only I had a Quid for every time Priskin was caught off side I would have enough now to retire on!

Surely Keane would have taught him the off side rule FFS!

Jim, pre ME was great, afterwards a kid in the sweetshop when it came to signings.
    back on top
MM will always get credit for his organisational skills and getting a very average set of players into the top 6 for the majority of the season BUT regardless of results he will not become my ideal manager until he starts to show some willingness to impose ourselves on the opposition. As I have said several times recently we have a must not lose mentality rather than a can win and although that is good for certain opponents its not the way we should set ourselves up for the whole season.

As we're reminiscing about the bad times, the absolute nadir for me was this travesty - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/14514657

I was watching it in Magaluf and had asked the manager of the bar we were at to put the game on one of the TV screens. Everyone else was watching a Newcastle game that was on, bar me, my group of friends who I was with (all supported either Manchester United/Liverpool/Chelsea), and the group of about five or six Peterborough fans.

It was without a doubt one of my worst footballing experiences. As well as putting up with that Peterborough lot, I also had to content with the laughter of my friends ripping into Ipswich (my usual response of 'glory hunters' rang hollow and half-hearted that day). There was also a kindly Geordie, who came over from their game occasionally to check up on his 'second team' Ipswich. My last memory was him shouting "Bloody hell! They've scored seven now!" to his Newcastle mates.

After that I went to the bar and started downing spirits.

    It was mid-day.

I think I kicked over a table outside.

I was in bed by 7.

Unfortunately, on that night, the only thing I got to know better was the hotel toilet.

Has Mick taken leave of his senses? He was just on the telly box saying 70 points for the play offs and 79 for autos. I would have said 77/78 and 86/7. I think 70 may well get tenth place.
