The biggest derby in the world is now on groupon... <laugh> Oh Adam what have you done :emoticon-0173-middl

The mrs keeps booking meals on groupon. They're really good deals. Anyone else use it? We went to Lucca yesterday. Only had to buy a couple of drinks and we left the place stuffed.

If people who have used the site refer to it as "Groupcon" why would they be regulars? Are they stupid?

"**** me, I've just been conned again by Groupon, Ah well to cheer myself up I'll see if there are any good deals on Groupon"

By regulars I mean those daft enough to use them once or twice after their first encounter in the hope that their first had been a one off bad deal

I used Groupon twice for food deals...

First was at a place near York supposedly saving £10 each on 2 steak meals. Got there, were jammed together in an area reserved to Groupon deals (about half the space per table as the rest of the restaurant) Food came & it looked shocking on the plate & everything beyond the basic food was extras. To make things worse the place had their own steak meals special on ..... came with all the extras (sauces, onion rings etc) and a bottle of wine per couple for £2 more than we paid Groupon.

Second was for a coffee shop in Knaresborough...paid for the deal & then as it was a booking only for Groupon customers tried to book for 8 different days.....not one was available....ended up having to get a refund

I've used it for rounds of golf and had really good deals. Best was bacon butty, coffee, round of golf, followed by pie and chips for £10.
Groupon is like all offers, if you don't check what your getting and compare to normal prices expect to be ripped off

Its good to know then but we paid 25 quid and got 2 full size pizzas, homemade burger n chips and a pasta dish with 2 garlic breads. Well worth it.

There is a difference between marketing and giving it away because there is mo demand.

I've used them twice for meals and had no issues, I also use Travelzoo for meal deals (as well as the travel deals) and find them lots better. I have been to Westwood and Ogino with them on brilliant deals.

For an "elite sport" it's incredibly small time to be offering tickets on Groupon. You wouldn't expect this from a League 2 club.

There are 2 types of businesses on Groupon:

    1. Those that use it the right way - i.e. as a tool to attract you in to their business, sample their delights at a lower cost in the hope you really enjoy it and are happy to come back and pay menu prices.

    2. Those out to make a quick buck and don't give a crap if you come back again, they've made their money from you and think there are plenty of other people out there they can earn a quick buck from too. They tend to 'close down', rebrand and open 'under new management' fairly often. Simply so they can do it all over again.

My missus got us a Groupon deal for Riddler's in the old town.
2 starters, 2 mains and 2 cocktails for £18 (so a starter, main and drink for £9 each) - good menu options, decent enough food and good atmosphere. Well worth the money.

2 x 2 course meals plus cocktails at Ridlers, 2 x 2 course meals plus wine at The Bowery, 3 x 2 course meals plus wine at Holiday Inn Marina and just lately a 2 course meal plus wine at Villa Blanca, I don't mind being conned every time for the value and service we have had using Groupon. And on top of that we have spent a night in The Grand Scarborough just lately with evening meal, plus wine, then in the morning breakfast, the evening meal was crap but breakfast was superb.

Used it once. Booked a 'two nights for the price of one' at an establishment in Whitby. Also booked a table in the restaurant for the Saturday night.
We were the only people staying at the place on arrival, and our room wasn't ready. The room was in the attic and freezing.
Went down to restaurant for our 8.00pm booking, and it was closed.
We were told at breakfast the following morning that the restaurant was shut because they hadn't enough bookings to make it worth while opening.
    Breakfast was paltry.
We packed our bags and left. They can shove their 'free' night, never again.

Best Groupon deal we did was a trip to a small brewery near Pickering. Had a really interesting tour, lunch afterwards, and two pints each of whichever beer we wanted. Only cost around £10 each. A business I'm involved with did a Groupon deal a year or so ago, it brought in lots of customers who didn't know we existed and over half spent extra on top of their deal. One customer paid £20 on their voucher and spent over £150 on extras.

Never used it. I've flicked through now and again but whenever I've looked on there for something I've actually wanted I found it cheaper elsewhere.

Of course, but we'd rather have empty seats than do either of those.

Is it more small time than having empty seats and not doing anything about it?
