    Maybe a blessing in disguise.
I'd take it for a season or two.
Ok with me if it clears the deadwood.
Fine if we can start again with the performing U21's.

Some of these quotes have popped up regulary on the threads since the Villa fiasco. But really?

It could be a ****ing disaster, what makes folks think that it could be a blessing in disguise?
Are some so naive to think that we would walk the championship, or even worse, think we have a divine right to bounce straight back up?

It's one helluve tough league, going down will not be a blessing in disguise. Give ya heeds a shake.

Ellis get rid of this ****ing clown you have in charge, and give us a fighting chance. The championship will NOT be a blessing in disguise, not in todays game, it's not 1960/70/80s. :headbang:

It would be a financial disaster if we went down. We have to stay up no matter what.
The money we will receive by staying in the premiership will attract a good manager and better players.

Yes it would be a disaster for the club, but the problem is how do we avoid it, at the moment it does not look like we can tbh.

This 100%. Going down is pregnant with risk. Ask Fulham, Wigan, Norwich, Leeds, MK Dons. Give the kids a chance now and agreed get rid of that clown who currently picks the team

I've used the 'blessing in disguise' quote! However I totally agree with what you're saying! Relegation could, and would probably, cripple us, especially if we dont have an immediate return! However my point was is that I can see that its the only way things are gonna change! I dont think I can handle another season like the last 3 seasons! I'm tired of supporting a team full of players who dont care about the team I love! The lack of professionalism is infuriating. We've had worse teams in the past, but i have never felt this low, but at the same time not give a **** as much as i used to (If that makes sense), than i do at the moment! Relegation might be a blessing in disguise, then again, it probably wont be! However I think people are so despondent at the moment they are hopefully clinging on to that risk! After all, it worked for the Town to a certain extent. I'm so dejected this morning I dont think I would give 2 ****s if Short packed in this morning, sold the stadium to Ashley to build one of his ****ty shops meaning i would have to start supporting AFC Sunderland in the Beazer Homes League Division 3 North! I'm sad, dejected, furious but also bored by it all! Many mixed and contradictory emotions I just dont know where I'm at!

We (Newcastle) went down at the same time as Boro and the two teams were level for half the championship season, then we went one way and they went another. Since then they've flirted with relegation again once and are now finally back up challenging for promotion - on their 6th season. Others have gone down and kept going down...

I think long term you'd be fine but short term you could be down for a few seasons, its hard to say. People are talking about it being between yourselves and Burnley but you're` one win behind Hull (and others) as wellse

I'm one of those saying it might be ok. In my case I think it's because the alternative has lost its appeal Comm. This cycle of new manager bounce, clinging on, fading, sacking him is not enjoyable to watch or to follow.

I know it's not easy down in the champ but if managed properly, think of what it could be like....

Local lads from the academy getting a chance. Earning good but not completely unfathomable wages. Showing passion in every game, not just twice a season.

Away trips to Leeds, Forest, Huddersfield, Barnsley, Preston etc with huge away followings and a great chance to win rather than the usual £45 West Ham nightmare or £60 to get whipped at Arsenal library.

    Scoring goals, winning games, ffs!!

The premier lg is the place to be BUT would we enjoy ourselves more in the championship, for a few seasons? I think we might.

Bit of a moot point ATM as we're going down as things stand. Losing to Villa is one thing, but surrendering like we did is quite another.

In Frings post, he also mentions Leeds and Forest, this is what i am getting at. Another 2 big clubs, that just can't seem to shake the championship of.

And thats before we even get started with the likes of, Blackburn (****ing hell, they even won the prem), Brum, Norwich, Ipswich, Bolton, Sheff etc.

But like you said, look at Wigan and Fulham now..

Relegation, would be an utter disaster.

Damn good post, Commo. But going down has never been a blessing in disguise anyway. In 1958, we thought we'd murder everyone and be back up to our 'rightful place' in one season. It took us five years! And it took Liverpool nearly double that to get back up.

When you look at it, there haven't ever been that many coming straight back up. Newcastle did it a few years ago, and Man. U. did it back in 1974. There have probably been a few more in between times, but usually it takes teams years to recover. And it can be worse than that - in 1947, Brentford were relegated from the first division and have never come back in 68 years of trying! The second tier has never been easy.

Hull have to play 4 of the best teams out 5 of at home, but it makes no difference if we don't win. And why will be relegation be better ?. Poyet should have given players like Watmore and Agnew a chance months ago. Them players went out knowing after QPR got beat, saying to themselves, a draw would do us now we will not go down etc but Villa and Burnley had other ideas. Before we go down I want to see at least 1 decent home performance this season, which has been as bad as 2003. What the hell has gone on in the last 12 years is beyond me. Short should sell the club to a saudi Arabian billionaire next week, before his humiliated after the Mags game, and god knows what will kick off after that match if we lose, the Villa cup game will look like a tea party compared to this. And as for young players we Henderson, Sess etc but sold them, and that is where the trouble lies. Who next Johnson ?.

If we were doing ok and just needed a few tweaks then I'd say we absolutely must stay in this league. We're not though. It's awful to watch and it's just a continuous battle to eek out results under huge pressure.

There's only two ways to break the cycle: huge investment in players, wages, manager. OR clear the decks as quickly as possible of the high earning, low performing 'stars' and build a club with an identity/philosophy from the youth teams to the top. This is nearly impossible to do in the premier league where it's so tough to get every single point and pressure is so high.

I'd rather see us rebuild than continue as we've been doing. That most likely means a spell in the championship. I can live with that and there'd be many aspects of it which I'd thoroughly enjoy! That's all I'm saying. Pretty certain that doesn't make me a ******.

To me, it looks like a rotten core of players run your club and it manifests throughout your squad.

I said to Bri beginning of the season your squad is light on quality and cover, nothing has changed there. When the only players you can pick are the ones who are letting you down every week, they know they're getting a game, their levels drop, they get lazy.

Your owner has a lot to answer for as well, he's invested badly and put you in an unenviable position should you get relegated. I'm talking about lucrative contracts for piss poor players like Wickham and overly inflated prices on gambles like Defoe (who may well still come up trumps, I'm not saying that coupon is busted).

Would relegation save you? Hell No. There's every chance it would do the exact opposite.

If Gus has lost the players as well as the fans I'd expect him to be sacked very soon. They're probably scouring the globe for candidates as we speak, no doubt. However, just changing manager will only reset this cyclical farce unless, as I expect PDC was very much hoping, the manager is given responsibility to re wire the team from scratch.

But Terry a manager can't "rewire the team from scratch" whilst still getting enough points in this league. It's too hard.
