Wes Brown pulled no punches in his assessment of Sunderland’s 4-0 defeat to Aston Villa.

Four first-half goals stunned the Black Cats at the Stadium of Light, with Christian Benteke and Gabriel Agbonlahor each scoring a brace for Tim Sherwood’s side.

The Lads battled during a fragmented second period but they were unable to find a response, as Steven Fletcher hit the post and Connor Wickham fired inches over from range.

Speaking post-match Brown admitted Sunderland’s performance wasn’t good enough, before declaring the need to move forward quickly and respond against West Ham United next weekend.

“It was a bad day,” admitted Brown. “It was disappointing to say the least and you can’t end any first half four goals down.

“It didn’t happen and they scored all their goals from what they created – there is no coming back from that and it just wasn’t good enough in the first half.”

He continued: “At 2-0 down you’re still in the game but we managed to let another two in, so even though we played a little bit better after half time you’re asking a lot and it’s going to be difficult to score four or more.

“We have got to put this behind us, train hard next week and stick together to make sure we put in a good performance against West Ham United.

“We can’t give up becasue there are still games we can win and as long as we put everything we have into them I’m sure we can get results.”

Which games does he think we can win, we lost at home to QPR and Hull as well FFS. No light at the end of the tunnel but a big express with Championship on it is about to smash us. Dreadful day........again
