who was the last outfield player we bought who actually improved the first team? Clearly for me Ellis Short and Margaret Byrne are out of their depth and are clueless. Di Fanti was a joke. The players signed not suited to the prem' not one signing improved us. Congerton, who has he brought in that improved us? O'neill? Johnson I would have to say he was the last player brought in that improved the first team. For me you can see the change in short from when we sold bent and Henderson. This was when the ambition left the club. We all slagged Bob Murray but he certainly wouldn't have overseen the de Fanti fiasco. Without real investment to buy first team players who we know are better than what we have then it's scape by until relegation comes which looks at the moment sooner rather than later
As far as value for money's concerned has Johnson improved the squad that much? Hes been a huge let down in my opinion since he signed. The only sign of class we saw of him was when Theo Walcott got injured and we had 4 decent weeks off him when he thought he might have a chance to get in the England squad!
It's debatable. Especially with the mess he has got himself into. Who would you say last improved the first team?
Our record in the transfer market stinks, and this is the underlying problem. If we survive this time and it is in the balance we need another recruitment drive or the writing will be on the wall again. The only other alternative is to give youth a chance, Villa have done this with mixed results but it is one path to follow which will not ruin the club.
Probs as far back as Sess or Bent. Our transfer activitys been a joke. I think Rodwell can and will if he puts his injury nightmares behind him.
We often ask questions about the players we've bought, but I sometimes wonder about the players the club/managers select to sell. How many who were not regarded good enough for us are(and over the years have been) regular/automatic players for teams who are above us in the league.
