As I said in the transfer thread. He is saying the right words at least.

I'm not getting too excited. I hope he stays, but he is worth way more than 6.5m to Atletico. They may need to play him or they may decide to get 15m for him. Fingers crossed.

Big statement from him, and an encouraging one.

The pre-agreed price is way too low for a player of his ability, so it looks like it could be a case of another club outbidding us on fee and wages, even though Toby would be more than happy to sign up with Saints.

The most positive thing I have heard from him as he has been quite circumspect. He has to be respectful to Atletico Madrid if they want him back, but, whatever he says, his wishes will have to be considered if Atletico want to move him on. It's called negotiations.

Nowadays, I put very little stock in what players actually stay. Lovren and Lord Twatbeard taught me that.

Of course (and I assume the stay instead of say was a Freudian slip!). However, you have to ask what Toby stands to gain from this statement. He is already worshipped by the SMS faithful, who are aware that his destiny is unlikely to be in his own hands. He could just stay silent and sign for Arsenal at the end of the season for a price and wage deal we could never match. We'd all be pissed off, but not with him in particular. Lovren and Lallana were different cases. The next bugger I see kissing the badge is dead meat!

I don't see this coming out of nowhere. He may well sign for someone else but that will be down to ridiculous wage offers or other clubs outbidding.

Would bloody love it if he stays.. Ppplleeeaaasseee let us finally keep a player for a change
