My sister's school (where she works - I'm not that young :emoticon-0105-wink:) has had an explosion and huge fire in Weybridge today - she wasn't impressed when I messaged her after seeing it on the news, asking if she had been teaching cooking :)

The Mirror,eh? Who'd have thought it? BTW how's the Mirror phone tapping enquiry going? Will it match up to the fake Iraq photo fiasco?

Ah, the Beeb! Didn't they provide Clarkson with the "provocative" car for the Argentina special and as for Clarkson insulting Mexicans...wasn't that Hammond? It seems Clarkson's biggest crime, in the view of the BBC hierarchy, is that he doesn't write for the Guardian and he makes money instead of hoovering up vast quantities of it from us(the preferred BBC credo).

Amazing..? With all due respect PL, isn't it pointless, as the title says..?

Isn't the series Planet Oil better..? Or Wolf Hall [of which I've finally got a couple of episodes under my belt, and it is very impressive]..? Or the Storyville or Timewatch documentaries..? Or Italy Unpacked..? Or Horizon..? Or the new Poldark series..? On indeed even the iconic Top Gear [no, it's not in any way my favourite but it carries a weight of quality production behind it]..?

Do you not have a shred of curiosity enough in science to watch Horizon, or in culture to watch Italy Unpacked, or in psychology to watch Storyville, or history to watch Timewatch..? Or indeed in drama [in its wider understanding] to watch something slightly more taxing than Pointless..?

How on earth is it amazing..?

I'm not sure comparing an early evening quiz show with a a documentary is a fair comparison.

You wrote that Pointless was the best show on TV. You want to quantify and qualify what you say in future.

Best game show. Of that, there can be no doubt.

Which part? I was spreading the joy that Star Gazing Live is coming back soon if you're refering to the last bit.

    http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/jeremy-clarkson-handed-himself-because-5323137

    Here's another Mirror article.
Jeremy Clarkson reported HIMSELF to bosses after the alleged assault on producer Oisin Tymon last week – because his team were turning on him.

The Top Gear presenter left it five days before ringing to tell BBC director of television Danny Cohen that he had “forcibly manhandled” his colleague during a row over the dinner being provided.

He picked up the phone when other members of the team made it clear they were unhappy about what had happened to Oisin Tymon, 36, who has worked on the programme with Clarkson for the past decade.

One insider said: “He realised that he had f***ed up and that it was going to get out at some point.

"But he was acting out of self-interest – there’s no way he’d be putting his hand up to this if he didn’t think that it was going to get out and become a big issue.”

Afterwards Clarkson made a point of informing the rest of the team, in a meeting, that he had reported to matter to Cohen, in a bid to get them back onside.

So they didn't know Clarkson reported himself until the BBC said he did.. But they do know the team turned against him.....
Oh and now instead of punched it's 'forcibly manhandled'...

It's okay disliking an individual...we can't like everyone, but you can't hate all of one group. I've known some good and kind posh people and I've known ghastly working class people. People can't be lumped together. A posh accent is only an accent in the same way as Liverpudlian is an accent....it's not put on, it's just a copy of the voices they heard whilst growing up. I'm comfortable with a wide range of people...probably because they don't intimidate me.

If I was to suggest a best show overall from my list, it might be Storyville or Timewatch. These are culture and history shows that have been around since before digital TV and they have given us supreme quality subject matter that I think goes a wee bit past Star Gazing LIVE, and I say that as an occasional amateur astronomer. Horizon does a lot better on astronomy and that programme is an utter shadow of its former self. Time was when Horizon was the go-to science programme.

Here's an example of a Storyville documemtary. It's only a trailer. The full programme last an hour or more:

People call me posh for some reason. It's really annoying. So clearly Jen would hate me!

    I'm not rich though

Are you saying that every 'posh' person you have experienced has been an unpleasant one, and that Clarkson shows every attribute of the 'posh' person of your experience..? Is that an accurate summary..?
