Hi All..

I very rarely put up a thread about a horse but today I am going to.

So the race in question as you've probably guessed from the thread title is the 4:10 at Newmarket :p. The horse in focus Eagles Peak.

This beautifully bred 3yr old from the Sir Michael Stoute stable is out of High Praise and by Galileo, and is therefore a half brother to Critical Acclaim who won at 1m4fl and is also related to decent 1m3fl winner Sight Unseen, whilst the dam who won between 7f -1m4fl is a half sister to observatory.

Enough of the history.. now to the present. I was first told about this horse in the autumn of last year where I had heard some very decent gallop reports even though he wasn’t working much at that time, so decent in fact I can reveal I actually placed an AP bet for the derby on this horse. I am told he has worked very well with a high class 3yr old from the same stable… will await his performance today before I mention who it is. I am assured this is a future group winner.

So to bring the enthusiasm down today for a bit: as you are probably aware SMS horses don't often win on debut because of a few reasons they won't be fully tuned up but at a decent level, and Ryan Moore won't ask everything of the horse he likes to develop the horse over time. I have been told to expect a very decent run today.. and cards on the table I've placed a nice e/w bet @ 4's on 1/4 odds as Thimaar looks a worthy favourite. So maybe have a bet on him today but make sure you watch this race for the future.

Cats, very interesting and totally agree that this is a race to watch for the future. As detailed on the old daily thread I’m on Thimaar as I think he is well, well above average (still in the Voltiger to boot) but the worry has to be that there is something ‘special’, in the heat, amongst the unraced ranks (as in the case when betting in these sorts of contests).

Your comments re Sir Michael’s horse are though very promising and he looks one to note. Should be a good race as the form of Thimaar’s seasonal debut has worked out really well and taking a literal line though the horse who finished a place in front of him last time out Thimaar is probably already worthy a rating in the mid 90’s.

I see those bookie chappies have the heat priced as a virtual match between them as its 10/1 bar the pair.
 
That Thimaar is a big brute of a horse but he should not be odds on against a field of what will probably turn out to be useful sorts. The two I like on paper are Royal Peculier and Strategic Bid.

Royal Peculier is out of a half sister to Nathaniel (who is by the same sire as this horse - Galileo) and also a half sister to Playful Act, Percussionist and three other black type racehorses. This one probably has been backwards and therefore is one just to watch for the future. Strategic Bid has had a run and I thought his debut was interesting, he has then been off for 83 days. I think he can outrun his odds. He is out of an unraced mare who is half sister to three black type racehorses all best over staying trips.

I wouldn't back anything in the race because I think most of these will need the race and most will probably turn out to be big and backwards.
 
What a race Cats. Thimaar looked a real baby when he went down a length in a field of 17, first up. He didn't seem to know what to do with his legs when they hit the go button. He's a big strong animal. In his second race, they stacked up the small field which didn't suit him. But even at this trip, up this straight, he will take some beating. Horrible price, no value. He needs the pace on and will relish an extra couple of furlongs. He looks to have a reasonable future. Strategic Bid who was backed first up, seems a place chance. But you guys know more about the unraced than I.

Been told Royal Peculier like you have said will need the run and also good ground.
 
Well done Catty, that Thimaar isn't very good and your lad impressed. He certainly will be a fair horse if he stays fit and comes out of the race well.

still don't know how you guys do it - do you mind complete novices like me coming on the forum for tips but not giving any - trust me you do not want to follow my tips
 
Thanks for the pick mwildcats and between you, wayward and gallop I managed to get a double which is a nice little earner and much appreciated. I would like to say thanks to a lot of you guys who do write ups about the horses as the information is top drawer.

Just trying to help everyone beat the enemy (bookie) !

Also thankyou for the congrats and kind words.. I know we all do this but this is my horse now lol (I'll follow it where ever it goes ala workforce) and I think it can go to the very top.
 
That's the second one I've missed today as I've been too busy to look. Fantastic tipping Cats.
 
Excellent, Cats, really good shout. Well done, old boy.

Although both of the front 2 will probobly now be looking for a possible step up into Conditions or Listed class initially, it will be fascinating to see what sort of handicap marks they are now given (although still a maiden Thimaar now qualifies for one having had the mandatory 3 runs). Both Sir Michael and Mr Gosden are not against putting running good horses in handicaps if they receive a lenient mark. Somehow doubt either will though as the form tie in of Thimaar through Cai Shen and Al Kazeem indicates a high first time rating for both he and Eagles Peak. Still await there respective marks with interest...
 
Eagles Peak has been retired after not recovering from an Injury picked up as a consequence of his race at York. :(

Christ, that's unbelievable. At least it explains why he was poor at York.

That's a real shame as he looked smart on debut. Thanks once again for the heads up on that btw Cats.
