Julien Temple film on BBC4, Friday night at 2300. "The Strypes: Best Thing Since Cavan." Great young band, playing Rock 'n' Roll as it should be played. Top live too. Will be worth a watch IMO.
Think they were around 15-18 when they played that with PW. Talented lads. Good to see youngsters with a real interest in the music rather than chasing the fame through reality shows.
There's plenty of good bands out there who work their arses off for years & never get anywhere & then these 16/17/18 year old kids come on X Factor or people in their 20's or 30's saying, "it's my dream to be a singer." I always say if it's their dream why haven't they ever tried working their arses off in pubs & clubs for at least a year, instead of taking the simple formula route of a "talent" show. I know there's the odd one who has done it, but few & far between & they rarely get anywhere when it comes down to winning it.
They're very good, they supported the Arctic Monkeys on their European tour a couple of years back. Their first record(an EP) was called Young, Gifted and Blue, a play on Nina Simone's Young, Gifted and Black.
A really good watch if you've got an hour free... http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0556q3x/the-strypes-best-thing-since-cavan
