I'm surprised it's taken this long considering the comments Monk made so public .

PAULO Sousa has taken a swipe at Garry Monk by claiming Swansea City’s success is down to the club’s board rather than any particular manager.
And the former Swansea boss has also criticised Monk for failing to confront him over any issues he had with his management.
Sousa spent the 2009-10 campaign in charge at the Liberty, when he guided the club to a more than respectable eighth-place finish in the Championship, before quitting to take over at Leicester City.
But throughout his time at Swansea, there were suggestions that the club’s playing staff were not convinced by the Portuguese’s methods.

Monk later wrote in his autobiography that the year under Sousa had been a “wasted season”, and also suggested he was glad Swansea had not been promoted because the former Juventus midfielder did not deserve the glory which would have come with clinching a place in the Premier League.
Sousa, who is now in charge of Champions League side Basel, has responded to Monk’s criticism.
“Look, he's a person I want to succeed, like everyone. But unfortunately he said things about me and I don't appreciate people talking about somebody when they don't have the courage to say it up front,” he told the Daily Mail.
“He is well integrated in the club, but the key for success at Swansea is the leadership of (Huw) Jenkins and the support of the board members, not one manager.”
Sousa lasted only a few months at Leicester, and he has admitted – not for the first time – that he was wrong to leave Swansea.
"When I left Swansea, my ambition pushed me to take decisions in the direction of better infrastructures, better club history and higher prospects to reach the Premier League,” he added.
"Instead of seeing the whole forest, I saw only the beautiful tree in front of me. Swansea has lots of beautiful trees, but at that moment I didn't recognise that. That I regret

Monk has done well since he took over, but one area he needs to improve is when to keep quite and when to speak. Sousa has every right to respond to Monks accusations, after all Sousa took is to our highest finish since the early 1980's. It's not the first time GM has made derogatory remarks about past managers and their staff, he is also been prone to openly criticising his players in public. Hopefully he will learn from this and go on to become one of our best managers.

Something's should be kept between closed doors and what Monk wrote was one of those examples .Why make enemies which can come back and bite you on the arse in the future ,he should remember it's not a big pool he's swimming in especially at the level he's managing at .
I wonder if he kept Sousa's phone number ,probably not which is a pity as he likes his little chats with Brendan and Martinez

Probably not .but thats not then thats not the point , was Monk speaking on behalf of the Club when he said he was glad we failed to gain promotion (highly unlikely)and if not then it shows he a bitter side to his nature .and

Well at least Sousa has a Champions League medal to his name, and now manager to CL team as well.

Monk was the captain and the official spokes person for the players and if there were any concerns or problems then it was monks job to tell the chairman who in turn will investigate. Sousa in my personal view was a good manager in grinding out 1-0 wins and should have been backed by jinx when he wanted to buy a striker for the final push for promotion but jinx refused and that is when Sousa lost interest and training and the day to day routines started to go down hill and the players rightly so got on to monks back to do something......So monk was right what he said and sousa who had problems with the board should have been more professional and carried on doing a good job instead of throwing his toys out of his pram waiting for the season to end so he could go.............So you see unless you know the true facts then we get silly remarks and end up blaming the wrong person..........Oh and i am a great admirer of Sousa but he was wrong......

It was Monk's job to report any dissatisfaction amongst the players to Sousa.
The captain's job is to liaise with the manager. They have to work together otherwise there's no trust.
If the manager cannot trust the captain he will inevitably appoint a new captain and ship out the disruptive influence.
He has led a charmed life has Monk.

If I was a current player and read this stuff I would look at what Sousa achieved in the game before Swansea, while manager of Swansea and post Swansea.
Do you know what? I don't think I'd have too much respect for Monk afterwards.
You've got to have character to lead.

terror monk did try to sort things out with sousa but that was not the problem , sousa,s problem was with jinx not giving him any money but it was the players who suffered by lack of interest by the manager because he could not get his own way.....I backed sousa and thought jinx was wrong in not backing him but thats no excuse to not do his job ....

I have a lot of time for Sousa, but Huw Jenkins didn't exactly cover himself in any glory with the way he elbowed Sousa out of the club, I remember at the time Samlet Swan and myself taking some stick on these boards or maybe it was the BBC 606 for having a go at Jenkins ridiculous antics which were clearly designed to pull the rug from underneath Sousa, and while an online survey had 52% of Jacks wanting Sousa to stay, some 48% wanted him gone, and it split the fans, and that was Jenkins fault, we could have gone up that season, but all Sousa got as Strikers was Trundle and Pintado, Jenkins brought Trundle back from Bristol, but by then his legs and pace had gone and Sousa sat Trundle on the bench that season mostly in response to Huw Jenkins bloody mindedness, in not providing £500,000 for a Portuguese loan striker, and so we had to watch that painful 'Bull' try to score a goal all season, no wonder Sousa sat our midfield so deep that season.

Garry Monk is doing many good things, but he is also doing some things bad, and I'm pleased Sousa has come out and responded to some of Monks very questionable statements regarding Sousa. Monk would be better advised to keep a civil tongue regarding his differences with Sousa, but I doubt he'll do that, but he should remember he is still a Rookie and wet behind the ears, and Monk should also remember he hasn't managed a team in Champions league yet, but Sousa has, so if he has any brains he'll apologise to Sousa, because as a manager at this level, it's a very small village................<ok>

PS: Would I have Sousa back? Yes in a heartbeat, but would Jenkins? Never, because he couldn't handle his occasional arrogance.

Trundles legs were far from gone dragon, Sousa would not play him because jinx brought him back, also jinx never gave him the elbow sousa left by mutual agreement...I liked sousa but he has to abide by the boards decisions and get on with it instead of acting like a little boy who was refused sweets. He showed lack of class and respect towards the chairman who was paying his wages and showed no interest towards his players. Monk was right to speak out

I was at the end of season dinner and I remember Huw thanking everybody except one noticeable omission - no prizes for guessing that it was Sousa. <cheers>

Chairman Huw Jenkins plays down Paulo Sousa's outburst - BBC

Sousa suggested the Swans alarming dip in form that has threatened their play-off hopes could have been prevented had players been brought in last month. It prompted Sousa to say after the Bristol City defeat: "We could have done more if we were prepared at the beginning of March but things didn't come like I expected and I would like". "I've said three or four times already with the injuries we had, we needed to have some cover straight away because in that moment, we were in a good moment and we could have got the results."

Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins says manager Paulo Sousa's outburst after Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Bristol City was down to his passion and emotion.

I see the usual suspects are defending the indefensible and revising history.
In particular there was a comment about Trundle being left on the bench as spite for not bringing in a decent striker. Bull (not Gorka) Trundle was a failure at Championship level, scoring 7 in 53 games before going to League 1 Leeds on loan where he managed 1 in 10.
His 5 from 20 games for us was a bit of a renaissance but by then he had reached the end of the road in leagues football, as shown by his transfer to Neath after us.
If Jenkins omitted thanks to Sousa at an end of season dinner then he, along with Monk, show a complete lack of dignity.
