I would include amongst them those that try and have a sensible conversation with Mr Hat; if it carries on this thread could start to be amusing. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

An odious, middle aged racist ****er gets sacked for twatting someone at work and there's outrage about his treatment?

    ****ing hell.

It's laughable it really is. The fact that people want the guy to stay is an absolute disgrace. Sadly they won't dare sack him.

I couldn't care either way as I don't watch it. I know it's very popular though, and I do love to see the faux outrage on social media and in the comments on The Guardian website whenever Clarkson says something controversial. I utterly despise Russell Brand, but I wouldn't want him silenced or censored for the ****e he says.

I guess people like Clarkson for the same reason they like Frankie Boyle - they both know how to offend the more sensitive people in life.

You should sign a petition if you feel so strongly about it. OLM said there are four 'Sack Clarkson' ones on the go...

I don't like Top gear either, but I just can't understand people sticking up for a guy that's racist and sexist. If I punched a colleague I would expect to be sacked immediately. He won't get sacked anyway so would be pointless signing any petition.

Just because something/someone is popular is no reflection on its value.

Just think about Germany in 1933.

(Or is that a bit extreme of me?)

I don't dislike Top Gear, and I can fully understand people sticking up for a guy who's immensely popular. I agree about your last point though. Punching a colleague or employer is a sure fire way to lose your job, and that alone is grounds for being sacked.

Regarding him being a racist, I don't think his nursery rhyme and 'slope' comment can be taken as malicious racism. Going back to my reference to Frankie Boyle, he's made comments about the Royal Family being 'German', a comment I often hear to insult the monarchy. Is that not racism or xenophobia at the very least? The Queen was born in the UK, as was her father, as was her grandfather, yet they are forever German. I guess some forms of bigotry are socially acceptable and others are not.

Germany's value was incredibly low in 1933 - about the lowest it's ever been.

No, Patches - you misunderstand the attitude re the Saxe-Coburg-Gothas - they have been GRAFTED on to us.

They changed their family name to Windsor when we were fighting a war against their land.

I pointed that out to my grandad, and asked him how come he didn't buy it when it was so cheap. He just slapped his forehead and said 'oy vez'.
