According to Auntie Beeb gossip pages then Spurs seem keen on Mahrez, arguably our best player this season, and will offer £7M for his services. Seems reasonable to me as there's no way we will keep him if/when we go down. Shame but that's football!
We should be asking for £10M Mahrez has proven his class all season so if he is going to leave then we should be charging top dollar
Mahrez is in a bottom of the premiership team and looking like the pick of a relatively poor bunch, snap their hands off for 7 mill it will buy us three players at least to help us in the championship next year.
we have players good enough to win the championship if we go down (the same players won it at a canter a year ago). Why sell our best player unless its for ridiculous money look at how much ross mccormick went for and how much QPR paid for Jordan Mutch Mahrez is better than both of those £7m is an insult and we would be crazy to accept that especially when it looks like we'll be losing knocky. Mahrez is under contract therefore no pressure to sell
all they need is confidence and belief. The difficult part would be the mental aspect not the ability that's there in the squad.
Still under contract so nothing under £10 million or keep him until next Jan transfer window once we're safe from relegation in the Championship.................
Tbf, he has been a great servant in his time here - attitude has always seemed top notch and is clearly better than us. IF we go down (if we stay up his value will be far higher as his value to us is more) then i think £7m is fair and i wouldnt begrudge him a move to a far better team.
I´d say ballox to 7 mil. Keep him for the champ´ship, what a team we´d have (so long we worked on our DEF over the summer)
... bottom line is that we don't HAVE to sell anyone ... when you look at the amounts of money paid for Lallana, Shaw etc ... £7m is peanuts in today's market for an inter-Prem transfer ... how much did Joe Allen cost Liverpool? ...
If he stays then he's nailed on to win Championship Player of the Season. Would be up there as one of the best to play in that league, ever.
£7m seems about right. Given what you paid for him and your position in the league, it seems like a good offer were they to make it. As for being the best in that league, ever? There's been some class players in that division. He's decent, but Jay Jay Okocha he ain't.
... he's still young and is a prodigious talent; difficult to say how far he can go at this point ... but looking at consumer driven markets etc, Everton paid £6 million for Nikica Jelavic some years ago ... and he is way more talented than that plus inflation ...
Don't see what our league position is anything to do with it (being in the Championship didn't affect the prices of McCormack or Rhodes). Even if we are relegated, it's far from the end of an era, and we'll certainly be looking to get back in the Prem immediately. We're not going to turn into a selling club overnight, quite the contrary, we'll know a lot more the deficiencies of our squad at Prem level and will look to address those issues. Mahrez is not the type of player we want to be losing. It would cost us more than £7m to bring in another player of his quality - double that I expect - so he's worth more than £7m to us. The only way he'll go for £7m is if he's desperate to stay in the Prem next season and doesn't have the patience to leave it a couple of months to see if we're heading in the right way - and that doesn't sound like Mahrez to me. Jay Jay Okocha was about finished when he played in the Championship. Mahrez is moving towards the peak of his career. I know which I'd prefer.
Maybe, but playing only 18 games and scoring no goals hardly made him a contender for player of the season, let alone the greatest Championship player ever. And he can't have impressed you that much - you released him at the end of the season even though he reconsider retirement to have another crack at the Prem.
Well he is better than Ulloa and far younger... the problem with comparing though is that anyone compared to the mccormack deal with worth about 9 billion pounds and compared to other deals is nothing. Maybe we could get some more, but being realistic if we do go down he is far too good for us in that division, has been a great servant in his time here and i certainly wouldnt begrudge him a move to continue his progression elsewhere and if he were to do so then £7m seems ok to me.
No, being a world class footballer makes him one of the best players to play in the Championship, ever, which was the original point. Mahrez is a good player, but he wouldn't make the top ten best players in there, not even the top twenty if I'm being honest. Despite only making 18 appearances, he was far, far better than any other player in that league at the time, his class was there for all to see. We didn't keep him because he'd done what we brought him in to do, we had Geovanni lined up to come in so it wasn't as if he was needed anymore. Using another of our players as an example, Nick Barmby in the three years he spent in that league prior to our first promotion was brilliant, he was clearly still PL quality and yet stuck by his hometown club.
