Three baby boys born in Scotland last year were called M, R and T.

The names were revealed as the National Records of Scotland published the forenames of the 56,725 births that were registered in 2014. The independence referendum may have had an influence of some parents, as two children were named Freedom and another three named Indy.

Some other names featured included Bluebell-Fawn, Nicholas-Darius, Leonidas and Dodge. In December, it was announced that Jack and Emily were the most popular names for babies registered in Scotland.

Some of the other more unusual names in the 2014 list include Arrlo, Draven, Daiquiri, Emmett, Spartacus and Thor. Juniper, Jolynn-Diamond, Maddyson-Dyamonds, Thirteena-Starr and Lilias-Anne were also names given to Scots born last year. Scots mothers were perhaps inspired by the hit TV show Game of Thrones, as Khaleesi was the name given to three girls.

Whatever happened to calling all boys Allan and all girls Agnes? Simpler times.

Now what we have is kids growing up and the first adult thing they do is change their name by deed poll.

It should be no surprise that Zowie Bowie is better known as Duncan Jones.

It further goes to show that parents who give their offspring ridiculous names should be legally defined as unfit parents.

Erm, you can't be legally defined as an unfit parent until you are, actually, you know, err... a parent.

I know, but it's not actually a deterrent, it just means that they still get a chance to have 1 child.

Before it's too late to have an abortion, they should make the parents come up with a top 3 names list to be approved by a 3rd party, if any one them is ridiculous then hoover the unborn bastard up <ok>

You are far funnier than Dev, Toby. I can't ever remember Bob Monkhouse telling that one before.

I remember that too. The book was called "Playboy", or it might have been "Fiesta" or "Escort".
