A couple cities in NC were trying to get MLS clubs a year or so ago. They are not currently considered in the running for the next 2 expansion teams that will be announced in June. I imagine that they will try again for clubs.

The closest team to Raleigh will be DC United, I presume.

    EDIT: Yes, it is.

It makes logical sense (from a getting-as-many-fans-as-possible standpoint) to have a couple of divisions with at least one team from each state.

Though there would be many problems bringing that in.

Agreed; Isn't that pretty much what they do with NFL? It seems to work there.

No the MLS has the same set up in regards to divisions that every other sport here has including the NFL.

I think what he means is east west with relegation and promotion within each division.

It's something that has been suggested. One of the really big complaints from foreign players like Henry was the travel involved with playing in the MLS. The league commissioner and the owners do not want a relegation and promotion system. The pressure for relegation and promotion is coming from all the rich owners of other pro sports teams who want MLS teams. There are probably a couple dozen people who want to get clubs not to mention the 40 or so other teams in our other leagues who want to move into the MLS. It's those 2 sets of people that are trying to push for some sort of relegation and promotion so they can join in on the fun. I think long term ( 30 years or so) we will probably see some sort of promotion and relegation.

No idea, some ****e stream from a dodgy site probably. Out of interest, what do Americans think of having brit presenters on the main channels? Would you not prefer americans?

Why would we prefer Americans? They are clearly using British announcers because we prefer British commentators as its not just the main channels it's all the small local channels as well. This comes up during the world cup (probably half our national team players are not from the US) and in regards to the large increase in foreign players entering the MLS. We are a nation of immigrants in general the idea of immigration is a completely positive thing as far as most of the US is concerned. Specifically British announcers in general seem to actually know what they are talking about as they played in real quality leagues, american announcers didn't and most seem to have no idea what they are talking about. The accent helps as well, the English accent is a fairly well regarded accent as opposed to the southern US accent which studies have shown is discriminated against.

Cool beans, man - so, having read through aaallll of that ****e and the numerous mentions that the football is ****e, MLS is off the watch list again. All of that is exactly what I don't want coming through the back door with changes like Hull Tigers - keep Americanism in America. <ok>

We generally prefer anyone who speaks good English and does a good job. For soccer that usually means a Brit. Yank soccer announcers are usually announcers borrowed from another sport paired with a former player. The former usually doesn't understand the game as well and compensates with chatter. The latter usually is long on knowledge and short on announcing skills. Give me Darke and McManaman any day.

    You try craigslist or ticketstub?

I have a couple pans in the garage haven't done it in a while though. It's always fun when you get some flakes showing in the bottom. There are a couple claims on my road so I might find a bit if I panned the creek bed.
