Everton fans are quick to mention manager of the year awards as if that actually means something - top of the form league on the other hand actually does.

If your 28 points from 28 games was all from draws, you'd be going on excitedly about being unbeaten all season

Up until the week before Christmas you were 1 point ahead of us, mid table. It's only your form since then that's seen you rise. But the first 4 months of the season you were as pants as we were and Rodgers was coming under intense pressure.

Top of the form league means jack.

It's merely an indicator of who's either had easy fixtures or is playing well at a snapshot in time.

Anyone can top the 6 game form league, it's what you do over 38 games that matters.

 

Losing Suarez and bedding in new players took its toll before Christmas.

Rodgers to his credit changed it round and found a way of playing that suited you. Martinez has persevered with his default style and we've continued at the same poor level all season.

 

But I saw lots of comments that Suarez wouldn't be such a loss and people pointed to the games he missed/form shown.

 

Some of the blame needs to be leveled towards the players....not just the manager.

But we have been terrible, part of me wants a 0-4 loss on thursday so we can get on with getting league form sorted and play a scratch side away.

You're contradicting yourself, as you hailed your current form as being proof that you hadn't fallen back on last season. I merely reminded you of the 4 months that preceded it.

You're probably right I haven't looked back on this thread but I was actually referencing Everton fans who historically mention manager of the year as if it is a meaningful measure. Probably because for a long time now that's all they've had to 'boast' about.

it has never been a meaningful measure, manager of the year should be the bloke who wins the league.....no matter the budget at his disposal. So i fully agree where you mentioned that earlier

 

Do you have the same amount of points at this stage/on course for the same amount of points as last season?

If you do then great.....if not, you are doing worse

 

Usually, but it would make it completely redundant if it were an automatic award. Might as well also make the best league XI the team that won the league and the world XI the team that won the world cup.
