Many people appear to be wondering about Grayson's ability to spot the right players we need, and blend them into a team. For 35 years, I was an excellent man-manager, team-builder, etc and my team delivered some great results....but I often had to rely on my team to find new people cos I WAS RUBBISH at finding new blood. But when my team brought someone else in, I was very good at managing them. My point is, I actually think that Simon might be in the same position. I think he IS a good manager. The real issue may be that Simon might be Brian Clough in disguise....he needs to find a 'Peter Taylor' to work beside him, and get the right guys in. Maybe we should stick with Grayon, but sack Snodin and bring in a replacement to do what Simon struggles with?
yOU COULD BE RIGHT but he did find Schmichel profit £1m Gradel possible profit os sale £2mhe has not lost much on his transfer dealings the trouble is he can only shop at poundstrecher!
The issue with Grayson is not that he cannot spot a good player but that the chairman will not pay the wages that they are asking for. We are looking for Premiership players but only willing to pay league 1 wages. Players would rather sit in the reserves on very good money rather than play week in week out for lesser wages.
Grayson isnt fit to look at Brian Clough's boots. Signs 1 good player for every 5 bad ones. tactics are questionable, and plays Painter rather than RM or the better DS
I get your point. Obviously he's not and won't be in the league of Clough - although he's probably a nicer and less arrogant person - but he does need someone to help him with transfers. I think that Gwym Williams is our scout? But he's not a good one.
Maybe the secret to been a succesful manager is drinking copious amounts of alcohol. Look at Clough and the red nosed bloke over the pennines.
His tactics are fine, playing 4-5-1 was a masterstroke, getting the best out of our 4 best players. Paynter is Becchio's backup, McCormack and Somma are 2 completely different kinds of striker. Clearly it's you who's tactically clueless.
Grayson gets it wrong with a few but they are not costing us anything apart from wages. I would judge him on that if ever he splashes out £2 million on a player and they fail.
Yeah but wages account for a lot. The combined wages of George McCartney, Billy Paytner, Collins, Bruce, Livermore, Bannan, McSheffrey etc. will have been money that could have been invested in a really good signing instead.
I still think that Simon's been saying for the last 18 months ..."let's find a good defensive midfielder"...and we're still waiting. Yes, half the problem is probably that we can't afford the one's which fit the bill (on Bates's wage structure), but I do think that if scouting is Gwyn Williams's job, then he's got to scout within the parameters his bosses give him. And that fact that a) we've got in a few that haven't worked b) not found one that dos work surely means that Williams should move over??
Billy is right If you have to shop in the whoppy isle in Asda for sure the food want always taste nice......... The comparrison to Clough is crazy.... I think we have too many who expect miracles.....its not going to happen and we dont have the money some clubs do...we will have to get promotion the hard way....
