That was the other one I was trying to think of from that season 2-0 up going into stoppage time the Villa game we lost though... mad to think how many times we did it thst year. Anyone remember Arsenal equalising in t he 96th minute (of 4 added on!) At Highbury?
Crouch electing to shoot rather than running the ball into the corner vs Everton. Why couldn't our matches end on 89 mins that season! (Even if injury time finally became our friend right at the end of that season vs Norwich and Palace).
That was the one I always remember. That was the first time after all the great escapes that I really began to worry about us being relegated. That and 'Arry's interviews which never filled me with confidence so I didn't see how the players could believe him either.
3-1 at Home against Reading, Adam Le Fondre coming off the bench and basically stealing the Title from us. 2-1 at Home against Brighton in League 1, Glenn Murray coming of the bench and being a tosser. Any loss to Bristol City. **** Bristol City. QPR away in the dark championship days when we lost 4-1, Adam Lallana for equalising spectacularly and giving us hope. Twat.
I've come across a great LeTissier disallowed goal which is so onside it's not true: Great memories of the late Dean Richards, a young Matt Oakley, Doddsy, Beattie and Co, and the Dell itself. If you watch it on the Youtube website there are half a dozen or more match highlights from the same era down the page to go with it. Entertaining highlights. Think the Everton 3-3 is there as well [not the Crouch match].
I think you're right about the extra time. That game left mental scars for me. Horrific. Makes you realise how dreadful the Sunderland fans must have felt. Ronnie Ekelund's injury was a massive disappointment, as was the Hoddle/Richards departure to Spurs, and the constant poor performances of both Gaston Ramirez and Dani Osvaldo.
Oh yes, FLT. Of all the all time "bloody hell supporting Saints is hard work" moments that one is up there. So dwell in these moments oh ye doom merchants. Finishing 7th, if it happens, is like a stroll in the park compared to the real angst of supporting Saints. My personal " favourite" that I draw on in dark moments is winning at Everton and discovering we were still relegated. 1974 for those of historical bent.
Lambo, 7th would be a great season and one in the eye for MP, NC, Lallana, Lovren and all the doubting pundits. Personally, I think we'll finish 6th, maybe 5th. Great season. The only downer for me being Sheff Utd away.. Blew a chance there. The rest has been excellent.
The away game at Pompey where we capitulated and kick started their great escape. Someone else will have to fill in the details!
We had so many lowlights in the period from Jan '05 right the way through to 2009: Throwing away multiple leads to get relegated from the Prem The game mentioned above which I think no more shall be spoken about! The Leeds game... Derby play-off semi Being 3-0 down to Watford at half time after missing 2 penalties Getting hit for 5 at Hull of all places... But everything since Summer 2009 has just been fantastic, one of the best periods to be a Saints fan in our history, so would I change any of the above? Would I ****.
I was out of the country for a long time, so I'm excused asking this question - what happened to Mattie Oakley? I remember him as a pretty decent midfielder and then he disappeared .............
