I don't necessarily believe 'published' fees either. Unless individual fees are broken down in the annual report, which they aren't, then all fees are just hearsay and I treat them as such.

In discussions like this, fees are just an indicator of how well managers have done in the transfer market imo and nothing more, which I think is what was being done here. But I'm sure when the board are assessing how well RM has done, they'll take into account what we paid for Borini <laugh>

In the few times I saw him it looked like he was usually too deep and would kill off any attacks.

So are you saying the players where we know the fee have been bad buys? Kone has just been unlucky with a horrible knee injury......Besic, smart buy for £4m.

    Lukaku and McGeady.......<ok>

Martinez took Wigan down and after 30 games they had 30 points. Everton have 28 points from 28 games.

Means nothing, but it was in a paper today so must mean something surely!

Roberto Martinez: Everton in survival fight, says manager
Everton manager Roberto Martinez has accepted that the club are in a relegation battle.

Martinez's side are six points above the relegation zone after winning one of their last 12 Premier League games.

Everton have 28 points from 28 games, their lowest total at this stage of a season in the Premier League era.

"Any team that hasn't got 40 points in the final third of the season is in a relegation fight," Martinez told the Sunday Telegraph.

"The big advantage I have is that I've been through that every season."

Martinez won successive relegation battles as manager with Wigan Athletic in 2010, 2011 and 2012 before they went down in 2013, days after winning the FA Cup.

"Yes, yes, but I've been down with 36 points and it's very tough to get 36 points in this league," Martinez said.

"It was very painful because it was on the back of winning the FA Cup. The FA Cup final got in the middle of achieving that and we paid the price."

Martinez has rejected criticism that his side's possession-heavy style of play is too slow to break down opposing teams.

Asked if his team were guilty of over-passing, he said: "Never. I don't think you can. You can never over-pass. Passing for the sake of it is

The big advantage I have is that I've been through that every season - Ok so I can see why that's a massive advantage Roberto <whistle>

it's very tough to get 36 points in this league - That will give his players massive confidence I'm sure <laugh>

You can never over-pass - Is this really true Roberto?

This interview has to get blues all over the world (County Rd and Rhyl) spitting feathers surely. It's more Brent than BR himself....****ing genius stuff

Didn't rodgers coin the death through posession line a few years back.

I still have faith in him and it's time for him and the players to produce what they did with ease last season

oh dear......... did he really say this stuff.... surely he's got to simply focus back on next game and get a win.. everton have home europa... that means home game on sunday v newcastle should be targetted as barring colocinni newcastle are awful.. they gave utd a good enough game at thier place but it was 0-0 but now the spitter is out that means they are short up top o really everton want to put the ball on lukaku's head (he's ****e shooting) and get a goal

I think everton 1 - newcastle 0... 31 points and looking at getting 2/3 more wins to survive... i reckon he should put it all into winning this weekend.

I'm pretty sure it's been "coined" before Brenda did it but yes I remember him talking about possession football in terms of it being (almost) the be all and end all. At the time I found it very worrying that he seemed to have such a narrow view of football (especially in England where total possession has never been the ultimate solution). Hence why I'd be equally worried if I was bitter hearing Martinez utter such ****e.

You're probably right to retain a certain faith in him, as with all managers they can't fully be judged until a few seasons in. Moyes had a few yo-yo years at the start of his Everton career but then he'd come in to a much greater mess than Martinez had.

    Not quite.

“When you’ve got the ball 65-70% of the time it’s a football death for the other team. We’re not at that stage yet but that’s what we will get to. It’s death by football. You just suck the life out of them.”

    Exactly right.

It's no time for him to be attempting to justify his poxy 'philosophy' at present. We need points on the board and all he needed to say is our results haven't been good enough and we're going to put that right - starting Sunday - the end.

    Instead he's coming out with ****e like this;

Winning a trophy at any price can be very costly in the long run,’’ he explained. “Of course you have to defend, but you want to be creative, constructive.” He will not “park the bus” to secure results to win a trophy. “I don’t think you would win it. You will always fall short.”

What the actual **** does that mean? We've not lifted a ****er for 20 years, I couldn't care less if we won one by playing with a brace of Routemasters. It shows the man's compleletly deluded imo and he's managing Everton like it's some vanity project. It's a results business Bobby you blooter, sort your head out or **** off.

Everton want 21-year-old midfielder Ross Barkley to rest during the summer and not go on international duty with the senior England side or the under-21s.

    Why the ****?

That 1 goal and 1 assist over 1370 minutes of football must have really taken it out of him <doh>

(We rested Sterling mid season and he's still played 2241 minutes)
