Glen Johnson admits he’s considering a number of offers from abroad as the Liverpool full-back prepares to leave Anfield this summer. The 30-year-old defender is out of contract at the end of the season and he’s confirmed that there have been no fresh talks over an extension. Johnson, who has been linked with a move to Serie A outfit Roma, is able to sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club and he says discussions have already taken place. Asked about his contract situation at Liverpool, Johnson said: “There’s no update. There have been no talks. “At this point I have no idea (where I will be next season). I haven’t thought about it. “I’ve got two months left here and we will see what happens after that. I’m just going to keep my head down and keep training.” please log in to view this image On the possibility of moving overseas, Johnson added: “I do like the idea of going abroad. “There have been talks. I’m still young and it would be great for the kids. But I’m not thinking about that at the moment, We will have to wait and see.” Boss Brendan Rodgers said back in January that he wanted Johnson to stay but the situation is complicated by his status as one of the club’s highest earners and his dwindling role at Anfield. Johnson earns around £120,000 per week and he rejected the Reds’ offer of a short extension on reduced terms towards the end of last season. Over the course of the current campaign it has become increasingly clear that the former Chelsea full-back’s Reds career is coming to an end. Johnson, who cost Liverpool £18million from Portsmouth in 2009, has scored nine goals in 192 appearances for the club. He has been hampered by injuries this term and since regaining fitness he has found himself down the pecking order. Sunday’s FA Cup stalemate with Blackburn Rovers was his first start since the fourth round tie with Bolton back in January. - I wouldn't actually be surprised if Johnson signed for one of Europe's biggest clubs.
Should never have been given game time this season, he wants out, wouldn't accept the deal he was offered by the club, has been half hearted in commitment when ever he's played. **** him off ASAP. And now Henderson and Sterling are holding the club to ransom by not signing and could run their contracts down and cost us big time in fees if they end up leaving, ****ng dogs.
Cannot believe we even offered johnson a new contract at all - does not deserve it. Apparently Sterling wants £130k - not sure whether it's true or not but I wouldn't be surprised. Henderson is an interesting one - giving young players big contracts sets a dangerous precedent. Henderson isn't worthy of a £70k let alone the reported £100k.
Sterling has gone right downhill since his peak after his holiday. He's still a good player for us (and obv has age on his side) but I don't think we should let him hold us to randsome. He doesn't deserve more than the 100k he's being offered atm, and neither does Hendo. They're both getting a bit to uppity imho after just one good year
If you play him out wide that happens, he needs to be playing through the middle but we can't accomodate him with Allen Henderson Can\Lucas Coutinho. Stick Coutinho out where Sterling is and he will be just as ineffective.
He was previously, both stuck out wide and ineffective. Problem is, how do you play both of them centrally without it effecting the foundations of the teams in a Gerrard + Lampard kind of way?
But just like Rodgers has shown faith and trust in promoting Henderson to follow Gerrard as captain Henderson should trust Rodgers and the club when it comes to his worth due to his age and the dangers of paying him too much too soon.
Not sure, just saying that is why Sterling looks like he's gone off the boil, he hasn't, we are deploying him where he can do least damage. For all his pace and skill, Moreno is better out there. So.. with a fit Moreno, do we leave out Sterling? Guaranteed transfer out if that happened regularly. Fair play to Sterling though, he did very good work when we had not got the ball for all his ineffectiveness with the ball. That often gets overlooked.
Fingers crossed for Johnson's departure. I will drive him to the airport of his choice free of charge.
need to wake up to modern game here... sorry... again my example is winston reid at west ham wanting 80k... the reality is with big tv moeny flowing in henderson just wants his cut.
