Are people willing to let an opportunity to earn big money and have success pass by in the hope that it will present itself again?
What makes more money; one or two years at Man City or one or two decades at Liverpool? Man City is where people go to end their careers with a big payday.
Would he last 5 years though? He'll pro get 3 years max at 30m and then could potentially go to a lower team earning no where near as much... or he could stay with us, earn £5m over 6 or 7 years etc....
Similarly, the cynic (or perhaps just the fearful part) in others will believe that which fits into their own theory. Neither side knows the truth, but will theorise according to their own personality. As ever, all we can do is wait and see. Not everybody is motivated purely by money.
If you don't think you're a flash in the pan and you actually have confidence in doing a decent job on a regular basis then why not..?
Objectively most big clubs willing to pay big money have had their man, why would Rodgers be any different?
Any number of reasons. The most cynical being that his ego might be bigger than his venality. It might mean more to him to believe he's achieved something by making a (relatively speaking) struggling club into a major contender again. He'll still make a ****load of money in the process, so once again I say, not everyone is motivated by money alone -there are other factors. Which category he falls into is open to speculation, but the sweeping assertion that everyone can be bought is not necessarily true. It's not as though you're offering a pauper a million quid, is it? It's offering someone with a lot of money even more money- surely there comes a point where other factors enter into the equation?
No way would City hire Rodgers yet. Don't get me wrong, he is a promising young manager who's brand of football is very entertaining and has achieved this with a core of young English players which should be heavily commended. Despite this his spending record is ****e and has yet to achieve anything of note in the game but I'm sure he will break his duct soon.
You've got to love the fickle media. 2 months ago brendan was going to leave liverpool, via the sack, now brendan is gonna leave by being headhunted instead
