So what we are saying is that we are looking for a manager who with no money can get us playing like Barcelona - sorry, that is not going to happen. Don't really like re-hashing the past but this club went wrong the moment Roy Keane walked through the door. MM has stabilised us. Granted, we are not playing attractive football (which is why IMO, supporters both of ITFC & MMs previous clubs turn on him quickly) & he has almost made mistakes that he is too stubborn to admit to - Smith Tabb etc but on the whole, he has done a very good job with very little backing from the board.
What a complete crock of Sh1te I've never read so much bollux in my life (apart from the Budgies Honours list). Mick has done a superb job in even getting us into this promotion picture and if we do fall short this season I have every belief that he will get us promoted next season.
I think play offs would be an impressive achievement, considering where we were at the start of the season and the context of McCarthy's managerial tenure. He is working under a very limited budget and has done well to get us in a position to challenge for promotion, considering what kind of side, and club, we've been over the past several years. Yes, the football isn't often pretty and yes, we are in a patchy run of form, but I think we can be pleased with this season and, if anything, use it as a springboard to push on next season and hopefully loosen the purse-strings a little in the summer.
Make your mind up man, only the other day you were sprouting that you thought Mick had taken us as far as he can, now ( not for the first time) you change your mind completely Everyone is entitled to their opinions and yours are as valid as anyone else's but at least mine is consistent and don't change day to day Maybe you should think on that before you start slagging off other peoples viewpoint
" Tell ya what, if its true that MM told Town fans to F OFF, then i think he could be in a spot of bother!! You cant start swearing at the fans, without the fans your buggered, just shows what a prick the guy is, still, no doubt there will be plenty who still back him! " Can't argue with that Spanish. Lads we're one point off the play offs FFS like you I'm not happy with our form, but seriously get behind the team. If we sneak in the play offs we have an equal chance to any of getting through. It's not as doom and gloom as people think. Warky I agree if we don't go up this season we'll have a very good shot next season. I don't get why people are so fickle. When we were winning games for fun " we're amazing " dodgy run " we're terrible " just go with it for 10 more games! There will be twists and turns, could be our season it could not be. Whatever happens, it's been our best season since 07/08. If people think we're not making progress well it's quite obvious that we are as a club. " Make your mind up man, only the other day you were sprouting that you thought Mick had taken us as far as he can, now ( not for the first time) you change your mind completely " Can't argue with that either. Warky you've generally been pro Mick but you've had a few anti Mick rants as suggested. I'm 100% pro Mick - lot of time for him based on the previous two clowns.
Precisely Westy. I know some people want a younger, more progressive manager to come in, freshen the side up, and play attractive football. I think we'd all like that. If there's a 'right way' of playing football that we, as a club, can associate with, it's attacking football that's pleasing on the eye. There's no denying that McCarthy has done a good job, better than I expected, and more importantly he's got us challenging at the right end of the table after several years of underachievement. My issue is that if we sack McCarthy at the end of the season and replace him with somebody else, it's not exactly sending out a good message to other managers. Yeah, we want you, but your job here isn't safe even if you get the side challenging for promotion on a budget. Also, this will require money and, with a new philosophy to train, managers are going to want to bring in their own players. Now, with that attacking, short-passing style of football, we'll need technically proficient players at the club. That will ideally cost money too. Also, to change a style will require a degree of patience from the supporters. If this season has proved, patience is in short supply.
Yes I get frustrated at times with MM and I am only human after all like he is! I just think that his hand have been tied financially and that bringing in lots of quality is just a pipe dream for us! If ME allows the purse strings to be loosened in the Summer then I would want Mick to have the chance to spend it. ATM you can't blame him entirely for our slump in form as it was down to his management skills that got us in this position in the first place. If ME is unwilling to invest a little more in players then MM should reconsider his position because he has got these limited bunch of players as high as he can! That would be a big mistake as MM is a quality manager and it would be a huge gamble to trust this squad to anyone else.
Agree with your point JWM however there is a converse argument to this. You don't necessarily need money to play good football and get good technical players in. Brentford have spent more money than us but not huge amounts and look how much more confident they were on the ball and the passing and movement of their players. It's down to how the manager wants his team to play and what type of player fits into that system. What I'm saying is that while yes certainly I believe giving Mick more money we will be able to get better players in and improve us but he could improve our quality by signing more technically gifted players and also improve our quality by coaching our players to be more confident on the ball and pass and move. We saw both Jim and Royle play good attacking football with limited finances. You could see under Magilton our players confidence on the ball improved and we looked to pass and move far more than under Royle eve with the majority of the same players, this was planned and done through coaching and tactics and the managers philosophy (something Mick is actually very good at, the players do what he wants them to do). I think one of the most frustrating things is you can see Mick actually improves players greatly but he seems to lose patience with more talented ones and also you can actually see when we do play good football under him we do actually look like a good team, so he can actually do this and well he just chooses his teams to play the way they do, it's an intended thing.
Have to agree there ptc, even if we had the best technically gifted player in the league we probably wouldn't see his skills too much because Mick would have him playing a certain way.
Mick has given us the first 20+ striker for a good few years so he must being doing something right on the attacking side...
True Weighty, we obviously have a great striking coach in TC and Mick takes care of the defence but it seems to be at the cost of the midfield.
I think whatever happens this season that the midfield will be addressed in the summer....Tabb who was close to going at the start of this season will be off and I also think the Hunts will go.....so we will have room for a few new faces whether that's from youth (Benyu) or from new signings we will see..........
Yeah, sometimes I wish Tabb had left, just to give someone else a chance As you say, there will be a few changes in the summer, regardless which division we're in.
Not so sure about that mate. Any smart player under Mick knows that if they run around a lot, they'll get picked.
That's the thing would you want a manager that does what he thinks is right or one that makes the popular choice even if he thinks it's wrong.........
Now, now Weighty, I'm not going to get sucked into a political debate this early in the morning. We put our clocks forward last night and I need a nap at work. Can't be getting too fired up now
