    Green
    Furlong Onouha Caulker Yun
    Phillips Henry Sandro Isla
    Austin Vargas

    1. Furlong shouldn't be dropped after having a tough time against one of the best players in the world.
    2. Ned needs to do a job on Kane (alternatively Caulker does and Rio plays).
3.Isla on the wrong wing is not a mistake, but I would think that he can play there, support Vargas and leave space for Yun to come forward.
    4. Hopefully Vargas is buzzing like he was when he came on against Liverpoo after a spell on the bench.
    5. Come on u Rsssssss!!!!

Good question. Probably more of a 4411, but I really want Vargas to be very close to Charlie so that he is not isolated. Furthermore, Isla can also get involved when we have longer attacks.
The thing with 442, 4411, 352 etc is that it depends on who has the ball and how well you can keep hold of it.

Putting Matty back on the left is probably the worst thing that CR could do (even Harry watching at home wouldn't even consider that). Although, Vargas and Philips swopping flanks would make your team look very good.

Well sort of, as that's all we have left. Bear with me,
We're no good at defending, full agreement on that.
Spurs will play 4-2-3-1, with Kane up front and Erikkson and likely Townsend further forward.
3 at the back can work with Henry solidifying. You then have a fluid 2/3 in front that have a mixture of pace and further strength to combat the middle and take care of the like of Dembele. You then continue with pace in Vagas and Zarate, admittedly there's no one to put their foot on the ball, but Krankjaer really is a liability.

By the way, it wasn't me that put the slips in the tombola. That is those in charge of recruitment.

I was really looking at the Isla/Vargas chemistry - with swapping over during the game. Would prefer Phillips on his natural right but also need to get others with pace on the pitch...

Yeah, no Austin. May I remind you that Mick Quinn has scored 20 goals in a Prem season.

I'm with Johnny Giles. Formations and "tactics" are a damp squib. All this talk about 4-3-3, 4-5-1, 4-2-3-1, 4-3-2-1, 4-4-fu*king-2 is a load of bullsh*t. Its not chess we're playing, its football. Yes you need a general setup and a game plan but its really just about playing. Formations go out the window really when the first ball is kicked and the game takes on its own energy. I think Oddball knows what I'm talking about.

As a great sage once said "just go out and fizz it about a bit"

That was the exact team I tried to put up for my starting line-up on the match day thread before I even read this. But the site is sadly down.

Entirely agree with this comment. Team in the OP but with Krancjar instead of Vargas for me.

All the 3 need to interchange and get right up with Austin to support him when they aren't the provider further back or out wide.

This is the team I put up earlier but swapping sides between Vargas and Phillips for at least some of the time.
It is really all we have left.
This is backs against the wall time...and has to be the time the seige mentality kicks in.
Get points in this match, with the odds so against us...and we will really build on it.

Come on u Rrrs...this is the one.

If it's 'just about playing' we really are ****ed.

I'm somewhere in the middle. The better the players you have the less important all the formation stuff. But if you have little else or are less talented than the opposition, the shape and how well drilled the players are becomes very important.

I heard Johnny Giles can't find his own way home from the corner shop any more.

A famous phrase... No battle plan survives first contact with the enemy. As long as there is a general idea of shape, the need to be fluid is paramount. It would allow the likes of Vargas, Phillips, or whoever plays out wide to cut in or just do something different to cause the opposition's defence problems. Ridged is predictable.

So you think that the likes of Mourinho's Chelsea simply go out and see what the game throws at them with no idea of any tactical formation?
Your ignorance of all things related to football knows no bounds.
Right I must be off, as I've got to get to the ground andssupport my team.
You should try it sometime (don't bother today though as Chelsea don't have a game).
