Sorry I ment in. I know the place. I live in south yorkshire. Let me try again, Where in South Yorkshire ?
Sorry, my brain hurts after all that culture business She was born in Dinnington and then moved to South Anston and then moved to Treeton (now there's a place to conjure with - but i heared it got posh these days. We got married there!)
King Eric. You vexed me by slandering me by saying I like Boyzone which I don't...I can't stand them, but you've definitely over-stepped the mark by saying I read the s*n...I don't. It was the Star that provided the information that Giggs could possibly get sent down for purjery.
I didn't say they have. Why answer a question with another question- deflection? And surely you can see the difference between the impartiality of the British legal system and the sweet FA?
Footballers and other people of high standings in society do get away with things that others may not. I'm nt going to comment on the Gerrard case in particular but people do get away with things they shouldn't not due to being a footballer but due to the pro's that come with being a footballer - ie money. The onus it on the prosecutors to prove guilt which when you have the best money can buy representing you makes it even harder. With the evidence that we saw alone, I think me or you would have done time for it, but there is obviously other evidence we are not privy to. However it not just Gerrard, for example if we went speeding down the hard shoulder would we get away with it because we need a **** ? Money talks, I'm not talking about bribes of course, but in other ways. The British legal system is far from impartial.
Agree. remember all of these lawyers know each other, on both sides and work things out outside the courtroom before hand usually tbh unless they are in total disagreement then it is a showdown in court. The better higher paid lawyer you have the more connected he is in this manner and can agree on a minor slap on the wrist with the prosecutor for the offender before the steno takes downa word in court. it is the appearance of impartiality nothing more
On one hand we have THE LAW and on the other hand we have JUSTICE. Whilst in theory they should be the same thing, in practice they are not. Perhaps more than any other set of supporters we are well aware of that fact. For us The Law has been applied but we still await Justice. As for Gerrard, none of us witnessed what happened before the incident and none of us was in court to hear all the testimony. Hence our understanding of all that happened that night is either limited or biased or both. In that instance we have to rely upon the duly appointed person (the judge) to make a decision. Sure Gerrard can afford the best legal team. In any conflict you would expect the advisories to protect themselves to the best of their abilities. You woud do the same. So did Giggs, for different reasons, without his money he could not afford to hire the best legal team to gain the injunction. Trouble is in the complex legal world even the best legal teams cannot cover all of the bases.
I agree. I did say we are not privy to all the information. Also of course you would get the best legal team you can afford. I'm simply stating a persons standing in society can have an influence on how people perceive things.
Perhaps I wasn't clear enough. The british legal system is, as you point out, far from impartial. It has been used many times as a political tool, or as an instrument of colonial oppression. I have Irish ancestry and understand this well. But let's get some perspective on this, were talking football here fgs. I was responding to the suggestion that the courts would let Gerrard off from a serious crime because they were showing bias towards Liverpool football club.
this thread looked busy, so i read the first page. And the last one. Big mistake! Anyone want to give me a quick summary?
And my response was based on the application of law to footballers ( being on a high social standing ) in general although not specific to Gerrard I grant you that. Hence why I bought SAF into it aswell, it's not a question of bias towards Liverpool more to people of a high social standing such as Gerrard and SAF
Yep. It's basically how everything United is great and how Liverpool are **** - the usual standard of thread
Oh, have we united bastards derailed the thread again? We are terrible, anyway... Liverpool in decline, united for the treble etc. (insert generic united praise/liverpool put down)
