Last season Matt Oakley was the club captain and Andy King was the vice captain. With Matt Oakley only going to be a bit part player next season we need a permanent captain. If we sign Owen Hargreaves that may be the end of Matt Oakley despite him signing a new contract. Im sure we all agree Andy King isnt captain material. Most people including me thought that Richie Wellens should of been the captain instead as he is the best talker and leader we have. Now with the news signings coming in Matt Mills was the Reading captain and with the massive wages and transfer fee he may have been promised the armband. When Sven came here he said we has the quietest team on the pitch he has ever seen. So he signed Sol Bamba who helped communication. Chris Weale is too quiet thats one of the reason why we concede so many goals but Kasper Schmeichel is alot more vocal. When Oakley signed his contract he said he was giving the armband to King but when Oakley got into the team towards the end of the season he had the armband

So the contenders for the armband as things stand are Matt Oakley, Andy King, Richie Wellens and Matt Mills. I would want Matt Mills to have the armband as he reminds me a little of Matt Elliott

Wellens would be good, but Mills would be able to see more from centre back

Mills is younger and could be our captain for along time to come, i prefer a centre half to be the captain

By the way Sven talks in his interview on lcfc.com it looks as tho he sees Mills as a "natural leader" so maybe that will mean captaincy, or at least vice.

Leicester_Eds back on the scene!! Well often captaincy is put in the contract (Clemence situation), but if its not id say Mills- not only is he the most naturally leading player out there but King i felt played better without the 'burden' of captinacy earlier in the season and isnt a leader. Oakley wont play much and Mills just edges Wellens for me.

Agreed. Fantastic young player, but no the right character for captain.

I went for Wellens, has been here 2 years and has often been the only player not only shouting at his teammates and organising them, but also leading by example. He deserves the captaincy IMO. Also from the middle of the park he is more able to organise all over the pitch.

Mills' quality of captaining Reading was questioned by their fans and whilst they may very well be just talking sour-grape-ridden ****, I also am not a fan of giving it to a player that has just joined the club.

I say give it to Wellens, he wears his heart on his sleeve and can be very vocal at times, something that King was lacking last season he is too quiet. As for Mills I agree with Emilio that although he looks to be a strong contender on paper he has only just arrived and may possibly be the vice but should not get the captaincy (Just yet!!) anyway.

Voted for Mills. Why shouldnt a player just arrived at the club be given the captaincy ? Ridiculous argument. Mills is an established captain. This responsibility never affected his form in any way. Tried and tested. Give him the armband. Let King make his runs and score his goals, and Wellens organise the midfield.

Oakley has signed a new contract so i think he will stay unless we sign Owen Hargreaves. There is talk of Coventry after Oakley

Voted for King just to give a sense of consistency, players don't want constant captain changes and they don't want new boys coming in and taking it straight away.

That said I agree that King is a little too inexperienced for the job and sometimes he goes missing, which is not captain material. I think King is a captain for the future.

Oakley is the obvious choice but like it has been said, don't think he will feature heavily, I think that Wellens is a natural leader and could be a terrific skipper given the chance, but he never has so we don't know if it would change his game, something that we wouldn't want.

Just went for King as he didn't seem to do too badly with it last season.

King is a captain who leads by example rather than by words. I don't think he's a bad choice as captain. A player who's come through from the youth team so fans can relate to him.

Personally, I'd go for Wellens. He's a natural leader and organizer in the middle of the park and he's the one who dictates our play naturally with his passing so captaincy would come naturally to him I think. He also has the respect of the dressing room and doesn't need to get to know new teammates, coaching staff etc. which also edges him ahead of Mills.

Anyway, being the captain or not doesn't stop the more vocal players like Wellens, Gally, Mills etc. speaking up in the dressing room and on the pitch. The captain in Football isn't as important as in sports like Rugby or Cricket where they actually decide the tactics. We need more than one leader in the team.

Mind you, this discussion might be academic if this article is to be believed http://leicestercityfootballclub.co...ds-andy-king-leicester-city-captains-armband/
