    A factory recycles cups for use in its canteen. Nine used cups are required to make each new cup. If there are 337 used cups, how many new cups can possibly be made?

    (I am bored and I have 100s of these on a little desk pad)

    41 Cups seems the most logical answer to me, but because it's Mensa I'd imagine I'm wrong!

    It'll have something to do with the balance left over, as 337 isn't exactly divisible by 9.

    I'm not a maths gimp so I wouldn't even attempt to work out anything that's not a whole number <ok>

    Edit: Thought you were talking to me not DIAR

    Because you recycle the 37 again after they've been used, there's your other four.

    It says you need 9 to make just one, you're left with 4.44 after dividing the first load, then you're left with roughly 4 at the end, meaning you have 8.44 thereabouts.

    I just don't have the mental arithmetic skills to figure out if the remaining part you need to make 9 is in there with the fractional numbers... if it's not 41 it's definitely 42.

    337/9=37+4/9 *(1)
    using those 37 again ->
    37/9=4+1/9 *(2)
    using those 4 again ->
    4/9=4/9 *(3)

    *(1)+*(2)+*(3)
    4/9+1/9+4/9=9/9 = 1

    so 37+4+1=42 cups

    337 / 9 = 37 new with 4 used left
    37 / 9 = 4 new with now 5 used left
    4 new are used to become 9 used left
    therefore 42 can be made

    It's a fairly **** recycling plant if it needs 9 cups to make just 1 cup, I think the answer is 0 because no ****er would work there.
