I wouldn't say Not a chance. LVG has been a genius or clown of his own. I wouldn't put anything beyond him.
Of course that's a possibility too. Same as the RS and city and all the other teams. Could happen but the chances are small.
One answer: Saints and Arsenal away. If we are looking at difficult games. It could depend on where Chelsea are and how far behind City are. If they are far ahead one point may be good enough for them and good enough for LVG to take back. LVG could put 10 men behind the ball and play bus parking football. He could do that aginast City too and get 2 points from these matches. But miss on 4th if he has too many draws. As has shown in recent past, we could get beaten by Spurs or Arsenal at OT. Nothing is impossible with this United team.
Your last 6 home games tell a story. You beat a very disjointed Liverpool side and lost to Southampton. The rest have been against the whipping boys of the league and you've dispatched them as you should....but not without difficulty. Your away from isn't great and you got out of jail a bit last night. Of course, you can only beat what's in front of you but the next few weeks will test you much more than the last few. Will be interesting to see how you fare. A home win against Arsenal this weekend may well provide a good platform for you.
You are wrong. LVG is no respecter of so called big teams. He will underperform in exactly the same way against big teams as against so called small teams. He massively underperformed against Burnley and sunderland and Newcastle. Could he do worse against Spurs and Arsenal? I dont think so.
Erm...of course he could do worse.....they are better teams!! Your performances have to improve because they're better and you will lose.....last time I looked. losing is worse than winning.....not sure which bit I'm wrong on!
You are wrong as LVG doesn't choose which team to underperform to. Home Draws: Chelsea, Home defeats: Swansea, Southampton Away wins: Arsenal; Newcastle. Southampton, QPR Away Draws: WBA, Villa, burnley,Sunderland,Spurs, west Ham, Stoke Away defeats: City, Swansea, Leicester United get beaten by Southampton and Swansea at home but draw agianst Chelsea. They underperform very well against Arsenal but lost against Leicester. On current trend, United will get 72 points. Yes some of the matches are harder but then at the start LVG/United lost points against teams like Leicester and Burnley. Which they'll probably wont this part of the season.
You've proven that they can win ugly versus the bottom half teams. That's why you're fourth. Your form at the beginning of the season when you lost to Leicester is too old to gauge anything from. Your more recent form (last 6 home, last 6 away) is a better guide. You're fifth in the form league table but that's mainly driven from your home form when you've played bottom half teams (and us when we were awful). The only exception to that was Southampton...who won. If you continue your home form against better teams, you'll be well in the mix BUT you will also need to improve your away form too, which until last night was not good. Even including that win (which was not convincing by any means), your away form is distinctly average. Any form prior to that is obsolete....only current form counts.
I for one will hope that we ****ing underperfom and win the three points. I'll be sick to the stomach if we played a team off the park and lose..
The reality is that 1. United have to beat Spurs and Arsenal. Yes they are top sides but recent form suggests that like United they are not so hot away and that they've won their away points mostly against lower teams. So LVG must look to get 6 points aginst them. And they are direct challengers too. 2. United have to look to beat City. When I said City were poor at the RS, people thought I was wumming. We gave them a game at the Etihad with 10 men and if they play as rubbish as they have last week, then I cannot see why not? 3. The match against the RS is a true 6 pointer. No denying that. If United don't win then they shouldn't lose. All in all it is in LVG's hands and he'll have no ****ing excuse if he doesn't get into the top 4.
Arsenal have won 4 of their last 6 away games (league). That's not bad form at all (you've won 2 from 6, spurs 3 from 6) You'll need to have 2 good days to win both.....They'll both score imo.....unless DeGea is godlike again (a distinct possibility from your player of the year) As for the game against us.....well, the form book goes out of the window really.
At this point in time, it is fair to say that there are only 4 contenders for 3 CL places. Chelsea almost guaranteed a place and Southampton and spurs seemingly being left behind. City losing 2 in a row has made their CL position available. Only a few weeks ago, it looked liked there were 4 teams fighting for only one remaining 4th place!!
I think that Southampton and Spurs still have a chance though, it's going to be an interesting run in. It would be good if Chelsea lost a couple.
Can't rule them out, but I'd be surprised if two of the four main contenders for the spots dropped enough points to give them a genuine chance. One of the four could well **** up and drop back, but that still leaves Saints and Spurs fighting for fifth rather than fourth. Same reason I never believed Arsenal or Utd would have any chance of the title, regardless of how good form they had at points over the last few months. Even if one of us had gone on a storming run, it was always likely that only one of Chelsea or City would fail to hold their nerve. Turned out to be City in the end, but that still leaves us looking at 2nd place with no chance of 1st. And yes, it would be great if Chelsea lost a couple. Particularly if one of them is the game they play against us!
Spurs have a great run in....probably the 'easiest' of all of them. They're not out of it despite the daylight between them and us. Southampton have a tougher run in but a fighters chance I guess. Next 2 weeks pivotal for all teams in the run in. Would love to see City drop more points to West Brom. Unfortunately, I can't see Arsenal not getting top 4....they're looking good. We'll know soon enough!
i am glad to see other Big Clubs wanting to challenge us for Our Trophy. you put a big dent in Liverpool's hopes of top 4. or rather STEVIE GERredcarD did
So, next big game in the top four trophy race is Arsenal V Liverpool. Always assuming we beat Villa I'm not sure how I want this to pan out. I almost want Liverpool to win so the focus for fourth is transferred to Arsenal and Liverpool. Then again, an Arsenal win will more or less put Liverpool out of the running. Or do we fancy a simple draw?
