I'm quite happy to admit to being a pot head. I most definitely abuse cannabis in that I smoke far too much and it can't be good for my lungs, though bongs, a vape, natural tobacco and papers help a little. I'm also partial to the occasional brownie, cookie, yogurt, milkshake etc depending on how creative I'm feeling! Though my main vice is a spliff.

It most definitely has negative effects such as a decrease in motivation, being rather lethargic etc... But this is down to overuse as opposed to normal use. And even then it's up to the individual to respond to the loss of motivation, it's about the personality of the person in question.

I've done perfectly well for my age so far and the vast majority of weed smokers I know hold down jobs even when on the abuse side of usage. Though I know a couple of people who are quite happy just smoking weed and nothing else!

It's about the individual and how they are able to incorporate a substance into there lives.

And it should definitely be legalised, without a shadow of a doubt.

Tbh I expect it will be sooner than people think. I wouldn't be surprised if twenty years from now there is a legal source of cannabis in the uk.

I may have worded that last sentence poorly, I was trying to say the negative effects of cannabis will depend on the individual and there decisions as opposed to the cannabis itself.

And it's the same with all substances really.

What I meant was - other than casual use, how far along the scale of substance taking do you have to go before it controls you rather than the other way round?

The two are linked. Since essentially we're talking about chemicals, addicts [that includes drinkers, smokers and hard drug users] when trying to give up face not only their own will power - the thing they can control - but the chemical 'pull' - the thing they can't control.

Depends on the substance. Some people can't pick up a book without a ciggy in their hand <whistle>
Habit and addiction are different obviously.

I expect to be stoned certain times, due to habit. But does my body physically crave a doob, absolutely not.

It's a good question, I'd say again it depends on the individual and there personality as well as there particular chosen substance. Some people will fall very quickly into drug addiction and struggle to manage it while others slip in and out of the habit able to keep control of there usage.

It'll be different in each case.

No it doesn't - it depends on the substance and the user, as I said the two are linked.

I agree - this is different to what you said in your other post though that it's the individual not the cannabis, as you've now said it's a combination of the two.

Mate, if it's heroine the user is only seperated by his access to detox services. That's why all the stars go on class A benders and sign themselves in afterwards.
If someone repeatedly takes cocaine, it doesn't matter who they are because the coke will change that, all long term addictions or habits change people neurologically.

It's whether the individual is able to not form this habit or addiction that is relevant

Maybe I misinterpreted your 'depends on the substance' comment. If you meant it depends on the substance as to how long before it starts to control the user [using more than casually as I stated ] then I agree.

Are there people on here who don't think it should be legalised? If so for what reasons?

The only reason there could possibly be is the obvious price hike.
