I think Spurs are a big club but have probably under achieved in terms of honours, especially league titles and the last trophy of real note was that 91 fa cup, over 20 years ago. They are certainly big in English terms, though not perhaps so much in European or global terms. Not sure. Its a tricky debate but I think it's fair to say that big clubs are made a lot quicker in the modern era with global appeal, tv deals, marketing etc that now exists. Our main successes have only really come in the last 10 years but that has also coincided with such a massive up take in the interest in the game in emerging markets etc which means we are undoubtedly one of the biggest names out there now and probably much more so than traditional giants such as the Italian clubs, Benfica, etc This is why we've just secured the 2nd biggest shirt sponsorship deal ever. We are certainly a modern 'big' club if not necessarily a traditionally big one.
The pre match Wembley Spuds announcer was certainly bigging up the Spuds. He was talking of the Spuds being a big club with a global fan base and mentioning greats such as Jimmy Greaves and Dave McKay and their double winning side of the early 60s. In many ways he had me convinced, so it was even more of a great victory - in my mind - when we finally beat them for the first time in a Wembley Cup Final.
It's all in the past though isn't it?. That double was over 50 years ago. We won the double 5 years ago. As I say, not putting them down at all, they are a great club, have a loyal fan base, and moving in the right direction with the new stadium and consistent top 6 finishes. I just don't think they probably register that much globally at the moment, though could be wrong. The P.L is massive so I'm sure that helps but I can't imagine their global fan base, revenues etc are in the same bracket as us, Arsenal or Liverpool, with United obviously out in front of all.
Yep, before we served them 5-1, they went on about owning us at Wembley. Then before we won the European cup, it was we have more European trophies than you and Arsenal. They have no straws left to clutch at now. Apart from doing scarfers after the match:
It's the bloke who's going for the woman who then nuts the young lad protecting her that does it for me. Horrible cowardly human.
"scarfer" lol. Obviously the guy's a prick and frankly so is anyone that gets involved in football violence, whether they think they're obeying some daft hooligan's code or not. Since you decided to use it as a stick to beat Spurs fans with, where does attacking a steward for doing his job rank in this code? Is it " 'avin' it right" or "doing a vester, lowest of the low"? Prat
What scum. At the end the young guy who first got punched appears to stop the guy who's just been attacked from pushing the aggressive **** onto the tracks. What a good person, protects the woman, takes a punch and then still try's to stop it escalating even though he clearly doesn't want to be involved. The scum who start this nonsense need to grow up.
Yep he was clearly scarf but tried his best to protect the woman and bloke who were set upon by cowardly Spuds
