Why is it that refs hurry goalkeepers in the last ten minutes when they take just as long all game? That never makes sense to me.
Yes, you HAVE been doing it but you're happy to jump on anyone else who does it. If you look through my past posts you'll see how rarely I comment on ref's performances. I do, however, regularly point out how biased you are in their favour, which is what you're remembering. The timewasting by Speroni was shameful. Every single goalkick for the entire game up to our goal was taken from the far edge of the area from where the ball went out. Every one. I defy you to find one where he didn't do it. Vin
I don't think it will be that hard at all Chilco. It sometimes is easier to hit a ball into an area that a player will be moving into rather than a player stood in the area you have to aim; less margin of error.
In which case, why was he signalling Fraser to speed up when he was doing exactly the same thing? You think I have a downer on refs. Nope. I've defended them vociferously on here time after time after time. I've even suggested that there should be a ban on TV showing fouls at anything but full speed to prevent the undermining of referees (how's that for defending them?). I've advocated rules similar to rugby where dissent results in a ten yard penalty. Very recently I've defended them on here against a charge that they are slowing the game down. I even pointed you to an article about causes of bias in refereeing - did you read it? I suspect not because you were deeply insulted that I was suggesting referees could ever be biased (even unconsciously, god forbid, which is what the article was about). So it's a bit rich to suggest that I am, in any way, anti-referee. But I do have a downer on inconsistency, and last night's slow play refereeing was inconsistent plus he ignored violent conduct (that he definitely saw) so I reserve the right to comment without being told that I'm on the back of referees in some way. Atkinson was decent enough. Can't say he was like, AMAZING or anything. But not really his fault. I thought that was a relatively straight-forward type of game to ref. And he reff'ed it straightforwardly. I'd give him a match rating of 7.
I really enjoyed that this week. The players all seem such decent blokes, with no sign of arrogance about them. Mane at the end was a nice touch going into the crowd to sign autographs too. Someone should warn Fran & Mrs Godders that Morgan is topless towards the end
