So a referee admits, after the game, that he just guessed ........... I wonder what his next PL game will be.

If it had been Chelsea, and Mourinho, it wouldn't be for quite a while.

the match could have had a whole new perspective if Wickham had played Defoe in during the first part of the game. No doubt about the penalty so the sending off is neither nowt nor summat in the end regarding the result.

Not to the people who saw it no. But to the man in charge who didn't see it? He's got no grounds to award it, Refs aren't permitted to officiate on guess work, if they don't see it they don't give it, then say he didn't see it in his report giving the FA the opportunity to intervene. By the ref saying he saw it in his report when he didn't, he took the legal process out of the FA's hands to punish JoS if they saw fit. The Ref broke the rules. He shouldn't have given it and he shouldn't have sent anybody off and Falcao shouldn't have been a pussy, he should have stayed on his feet and smashed into the back of the net. That whole incident is the perfect example of everything that's wrong with football in this country imo.

Just watched the 'penalty' incident and never a penalty !, where is the contact ?, Falco is another diving get in the premier league. I have said this before, they are at it, and is a definite vendetta, and it will happen tomorrow at hull, and they will kick our players and get away with it. Some thing is going to get very ugly one day if they keep cheating us and get away with it, and we would be safe now had we got at least one match with a decision.

Don't disagree with anything you've said there Funky but I do want to separate bad officiating from bad luck.

The ref made a blunder and should be taken to task. I don't think you actually suffered as if he, or a competent ref, had seen it then it would have been a penalty and a red to O'Shea and you'd be without him for the next couple of games. As for the striker going down I think I'm the standard fan in that I don't like it but accept that is the game now, I don't think he was cheating just taking the easy option.

Disagree monty, it's not stonewall I'll grant you but what legitimate reason does O'Shea have for cupping his hand around Falcao's shoulder and pulling him back. You do that in the box and you take your chances. Genuinely think if that was a Utd player doing it to one of yours you'd not be happy.

My interpretation - and I'm not claiming this is the only one - is that O'Shea holds him back and that he is the last man. Brown makes up the yard and gets in because O'Shea is slowing him. Looks a foul to me, it is in the box and preventing a goalscoring opportunity. It's not the clearest penalty all season but its far from the lightest either, professional foul and I thought from his reaction O'Shea sort of accepted he probably had to go for that - though again just my interpretation.

I agree with some of that but still, you can't claim they were both the last man and neither can the referee.

The fact the card has been thrown out proves that ..........

Although I figured O'Shea was the last man I had an inkling it didn't actually matter. Wasn't sure so looked it up and this is what I found (on wikipaedia so I'm not claiming this is gospel):

"The terminology 'last man' is no longer included in the Laws of the Game. The offence is informally known as DOGSO, an acronym for "Denying an Obvious Goal-Scoring Opportunity". An "obvious goalscoring opportunity" means that the attacker has the ball at or near his feet, is close to the goal area and is moving towards the goal, and has no more than one defender or the goalkeeper in his way. These are known by referees as the "4 Ds," and only a foul that has all four must result in a red card."

I think the card being thrown it is because the referee is a numpty and gave it to the wrong guy, not convinced you would have appealed had it been shown to O'Shea but speculation is easy.

Stone wall penalty mate in my view. We weren't unlucky, we were incredibly lucky, nobody is suspended.

I remember when a strikers instinct was to try and score, not win a penalty for his teammate to score. The lad deserves his baron spell, he'll never score and build confidence with that attitude.

Correct, it was a throwaway game and no one, not even Cattermole, will miss the game tomorrow.

After the AJ thing the supporters, and hopefully players, will be there tomorrow with fire in them.

The pressure is on Hull and we can go there on a mission ........ hopefully we'll be singing all the way home <ok>

I love games like this mate.
Rest assured the Hull supporters will be ****ting it even more ....... a home defeat to Sunderland would be a hammer blow.
To us, it would be an away defeat to a team we lost at home against.

I'm sure the Hull supporters will be very nervous tomorrow.

A defeat would leave them facing Leicester away then Chelsea at home.

Then April brings 3 away with only Liverpool at home.

Things could look very different by the time May brings Arsenal, Spurs & Man Utd.
