So not qualifying means about £60m of income lost and a few hundred million in share price drops. Plus De Gea leaves. Wow, no wonder Van Gaal is having so many #meltdowns
And all of them would swap it for the FA Cup. And it's more than just a Cup for me UIR, it's a club record. It's pure competition for me mate. Also I look back at that League Cup in 2006 that kick-started our next successful period. You can never underestimate what winning a trophy can have on breeding a winning mentality for a fledgling squad.
I would love to win it but as long as we finish top 4. Its sad the game has come to that and the fa cup has lost its shine but thats the way it is now.
It's not really mate. The world won't end this season so what do we really lose? We won't be doomed to obscurity. We'll be back soon enough. Who will remember 5 years from now if we get top 4 or if we don't. But an FA Cup win over Liverpool or anyone for that matter? No contest. BTW the league this season has shown that if we strengthen enough and LVG gets his act together there really is no reason why we can't aim higher next season regardless of top 4.
well we want vengence for 1996... I hope you turn up in white suits and all. still. theres no chance arsneal will lose is there... i eman its not march or anything is it.... oops.
You seem over confident that if utd's to 4 ambition's go tits up the owners won't get rid of the manager, considering the financial implications it wouldn't be surprising.
I can't see it if we win the FA Cup. Even if we don't but get 5th I reckon he'll be safe, just a feeling the club won't fancy sacking another manager. I wouldn't want it..... unless a certain Mr Ancelotti becomes available.
There is a chance of ancelotti becoming available... i am really not sure who the F madrid think is out there mind but the politics at madrid are savage and new presidents seem to think appointing anyone means they get elected.
They have to not only take into account losses from sponsors and shares but also hand him another £100m in the summer, if you win the cup and end up in the EL they might just give him a transfer kitty based on that competition as its rewards are miniscule compared to the CL.
I reckon utd will still spend a fortune but they need to in certain areas... not to get 4th but to chase titles. If you really listed utd's best players and positons you'd want to fill to make a top team there's be at least 5 slots to fill. Assume 4-3-3 RB/RWB (not rafael or valencia) CB (not rojo, not blackett, not jones, not smalling) DCM (not blind, not old man carrick) CM (not rooney not mata, not di maria) ST (not falcao) In the end utd should have shaw playing LB/LWB... rooney playing 10. Di maria is a great player (wide) De gea is great keeper, You can take your pick of rojo or jone or smalling at CB is suppose. I'd play mata in CM position too.. RVP is getting old, he should be reserve.... etc etc. utd can get by without an RB no big deal but the central spine players vidic, ferdinand, scholes have never been replaced yet IMO
The so-called losses from shareprice won't matter. The liquid capital is there in the bank for summer transfers. The only question is will they give it to him. From what I hear (albeit rumours.... probably from the girl on the checkout at the megastore) he has a lot of support at the top of the club. It's a fair point though about revenue from the EL affecting it. My only argument there is Woodward's ego tbh.
The Woodward ego bit is a good point, Ferguson had a great working relationship with Gill but Van Gaal's got an ego as big as his head so could clash with Woodward.
sorry but that is slightly naive. Losses in share price should the occur always matter. while you are on the NY stock market and glaziers won most a share price drop is very serious for all and indicative of loos of confidence and those darned share holders will demand change. now cash on had or liquid assets... apparently utd cash on hand has dropped form 230mil to 113mil... so yeah you've the liquid assets to cough up.... but its dropping. please note that it is 2014 numbers i quote so it might be less than this i don't know. still... thats one di maria i suppose... I think Van Gaal's job will be safe for sure and nobody will have appetite for another manager search. Sure the whole anchelotti thing might occur but equally milan could stump up a vast sum to get him home... who knows.
To a certain extent, the only part of our spine that's still lacking is the CB and DM. Here it is for me... ----------------------De Gea RB--------CB----------Jones------Shaw/Blind ----Herrera (he is the future)---DM/Box t box Januzaj-------------Mata-----------Di Maria -------------------Rooney Squaddies: Carrick, Wilson, Valencia, Young, Smalling, Blackett, Rojo, Rafael, (Blind is a question mark, could rotate with the DM but I'm really not sure about him in midfield tbh - inconsistent at the moment, but will judge after 2nd season). Other players needed: ST Basically the priority for us is a CB (top drawer/leader) and DM/Box to Box Planning for the future another top drawer ST.
No I meant I don't think the stock market price will be dented significantly. Don't forget the value has increased substantially since they bought the club - about £2bn, that it would take one hell of a drop to undo that. And it hasn't in the last 12 months. It's interesting you mention Milan. My reason for wanting Ancelotti more than anyone is bcos I think he's the closest thing to Fergie out there, in terms of being suited to United's style and ethos. And I base that on his management of Milan. Defensively sound, but an expansive, passing style of counter-attacking football they played under him was a joy to watch. I would love him to manage us one day. BTW I don't think Milan could afford a bag of peanuts right now could they?
