...reason you have heard as to why Assem Allam wants to change our club name to Hull Tigers? We love a good old chinese whisper here (especially Burnsy). There must be some cracking stories out there. Mine is this: A bloke at work (who has no real interest in football) who is the captain of a local golf course/club was telling me how he's met Steve Bruce quite a few times playing golf. He said his mate has become good friends with Bruce and plays a round with him regularly. Anyway, to cut a long story short, he told me that his mate had been told by Bruce that when Bruce asked Assem for his reasoning for the name change, Assem told him that the owners of Tiger Beer wanted to invest in the club on a similar scale to what Red Bull have done elsewhere, but would only do so if the name was changed. I don't actually dis-believe the story, as I can imagine Assem making something as bonkers as that up as an excuse! ...and to be fair, the same bloke told me about Fulham going in for Bruce and him rejecting them long before it was ever mentioned in the papers.
I read similar stories, however mostly from internet rumours. I have said that it would be a great tie in. However if it were true, why wouldn't he or someone somewhere come out & say, "this is the reason." If there was the slightest chance that this club could be rich then I'm sure more people would be inclined to take his side than against. I do realise this thread isn't for ranting & for far out stories, but I haven't got one.
Can't see it. If he had a company lined up to put that much in it would have got a lot of waverers on his side. The ones like myself and others on here who value our history and identity wouldn't have been but a lot would.
I doubt that Tiger Beer would want to be held responsible for changing the club's name, given the negative publicity it might bring about. Imagine an FSA campaign to boycott their product, for example.
I never said I believed Tiger Beer were interested in investing in our club, I said I believed the part about Assem Allam telling Steve Bruce that this is the reason he wants to change the name. It wouldn't be the first time he's said something bonkers
I heard that Tiger Beer were going to offer us a massive sponsorship deal if the name was changed, just rumours though.
"asked if the club had had any sponsorship offers based purely on changing the club’s name, he admitted: “No, it’s a marketing strategy for the longer term.”" Thread over for me, I call bullshit. I really don't care if it is true. Successful clubs like Chelski and Man citeh are successful due to huge investment from rich backers,or owners. I don't envy them in the least. They won things because they found a sugar daddy. That's no achievment at all,in my eyes. The fans of those rich clubs, should really be chanting 'we're considerably richer than yow' at games, because that's all they've really got if they were honest about it.
The company that makes Tiger Beer sponsors the Champions League. Would they risk an international campaign against them just for Hull Tigers.
Clearly everybody knows Tiger Woods was going to be out new assistant manager if the name was changed.
Most far-fetched? I'm pretty sure at one point I saw someone on here try and argue that it could make money. Doesn't get much more far-fetched than that.
