Well the rise of Japan would be difficult to stomach for many from that era. The Koreans were much hated too for their roles in the Japanese empire. Now my wife has a Korean car. It's a funny old world.

Not to mention his pre-war self - just ask the city of Dundee what they think of him. It's easy to see where Thatcher gleaned her inspiration from...

Thankfully Thatcher had an excellent mentor to repeat the salvation of the UK. I dread to think of the consequences if these exceptional leaders had not performed so well.

Are you being serious here ? Do you really think that a woman who destroyed Britain's industrial base - who raped the north in the way she did, and who left a division in British society which has not subsequently healed can be classed in the same category as Churchill ? Or are you thinking more about the sacrifice of so many lives recovering a lump of rock in the South Atlantic (which could have been recovered by other means) and placing this in the same category as World War 2.

Extremely serious. Thatcher was the catalyst for giving the UK back it's pride. She was the backbone for taking on the loony left that almost destroyed the country.
Many of the Union leaders at the time were assisted by the Soviet Union to cause as much anarchy as possible. The UK now enjoys the lowest unemployment, best business enviroment in Europe. Her legacy is much under appreciated.

There were areas in the country that fared very badly because of industrial decline that started way before she came to power.

France is desperate for such a inspirational character but alas the electorate vote for pigmies such as Hollande who are afraid to tell the truth.

I read the president of Europe Jean-Claude Juncker warned the Greeks of voting incorrectly in their election, is this not a repeat of the Danish being told how to vote by the EU in 1992 for their referendum and after being made to vote again because the EU did not like the result.

The EU has some good things and some bad, I wish to keep them away from me at the end of my fingertips.

Football and politics don't mix of course, but how might a team vote?

Goalkeeper: definitely UKIP...don't let anyone or anything in.
Wing backs: tend to favour fringe parties, shifting back and forth from one to another.
Centre backs: once New Labour voters but SDP revivalists now.
Midfield: defensive workhorses mostly old Labour men, though the midfield areas are generally quite conservative. Might expect to find a few Greens here of course.
Wingers: quite unpredictable with right wingers often being left-footed and left wingers often being right-footed and both showing a tendency to shift frequently from one side to the other.
Forwards: in search of progressive, forward-looking options and so will probably not vote at all.

    Vegetarian militant.

Morrissey has cancelled his show in Harpa Hall because it will not be totally vegetarian, he expected them to be vegetarian for his visit.
The statement of Morrissey is "I love Iceland and I have waited a long time to return, but I shall leave the Harpa Concert Hall to their cannibalistic flesh-eating bloodlust."
Promotion manager Halldór Kvaran from RR ehf said "When the meat issue came up we realised that Harpa wouldn't work out for the concert, there are two restaurants in the building as well as a catering service and we can't order them to take meat of all their menus. We didn't even ask them to."
I respect Morrissey for wishing to be vegetarian, that choice is not for me, but to try and force that on people who may attend a restaurang in the building he is in and not for his concert is wrong.

Whilst I admire Morrissey for sticking to his principles, at what I suspect is great personal financial loss, it's not fair on the fans who are now going to miss out on something they were obviously looking forward to. Really and truly he should have had all of this sorted before agreeing to dates and selling tickets etc.

Quite how he expected Icelandics to back down under threats is beyond me though!

What a preening tart. Cannibalistic indeed! God, I hate his miserable, whining voice and his self-absorbed so-called songs. There is, of course, no accounting for taste, but I cannot understand what people see in him. Even if his lyrics were the most uplifting utterances on Earth, I could not get past his doleful demeanour to enjoy them.

    Sorry.

I had a few of LC's "songs" on a couple of CBS sampler albums 69 or 70. Sadly in the days before CDs there was no way of "skipping" these tracks.

Elgar's Cello Concerto affects me in much the same way now........

I actually had to research to find out who he was - if his popularity ever reached Australia, I obviously was asleep that day... Which was apparently lucky for me as the songs which were apparently hits sounded absolute crap to my ears.

Reading about him on wikipedia, he claims to be asexual. Most Aussies would probably disagree with that - to use the Aussie vernacular, he appears to be more often that not 'up himself'....

I love Elgar's Cello Concerto. And the Violin Concerto, although slightly less.
