The referee (Paul Tierney I believe) was excellent yesterday. Got Premier League written all over him. Anybody who thought he had a poor game is definitely bitter. Didn't have many big decisions to make but tried to let the game flow and rather than booking players willy-nilly, gave them two or three chances. In other games a few would have seen yellow earlier - especially Mings who could easily have been sent off given the number of blatant body checks and Martin for his misdemeanour - but he kept everything in control, gave the game a chance and I was very impressed. For a young referee to be given that game highlights how promising he is.

don't you think he should have given you guys a penalty early doors? and I did say that Ty should have been booked earlier!

he probably did do the right thing in not booking players willy nilly and perhaps awful was the wrong word, but a couple of major decisions he got wrong for both sides, and call me old fashioned but I like to see refs get major decisions correct to whatever team. so how anybody can call him excellent for getting 2 out of 2 wrong (1 for both sides) is beyond me.

btw, I am not saying he affected the result in anyway, so I am not using it as an excuse. just an observation from watching on tv.

Sorry, my 'sour grapes' post was on the assumption that you felt 'hard done by' as a result of dodgy calls from the officials. Most people (including many top flight managers) are quick to hide their team's failings behind excuses like that.
Btw, for dealing with the constant barrage of aerial bombardment so effectively, I'd give my MOTM award to Seb Bassong, probably the most improved player under the Alex Neil tenure. (Though Whitts, Grabban, Wes and Bradders are all playing out of their skins too)
How superb to have the 'feelgood factor' back at Carrot Road - we haven't had it so good for three (3) years.
(Ipswich haven't had it for circa thirteen years...and still counting - looking like it may be quite a few more yet <laugh> <ok>)

Yes we should have got a penalty. But it was a difficult one to decide from where he was. It happens.

No major decisions wrong other than Mings not getting booked and that ridiculous dive from the Ipswich player in the first half (?Tabb).

I have to say I thought Ipswich played out of their skins. They worked seriously hard and were very solid. I was hugely disappointed with their lack of intent at goal once they went two down though. Aside from a few minutes after half time, they never looked like they were seriously going to go for a goal unless it was a snatch-and-grab (which was fine while there was only one goal in it). We played relatively poorly, but when you're 2-0 up and the opposition still sits back and lets you play in front of them, why risk anything?

Overall, a dreadful game to watch because MM clearly worked out that was Ipswich's best hope of getting anything.

personally I though hulahoops was your man of the match, one of the few from both sides that tried to get the ball down and play with a bit of composure.

Guru, I commend you for your very fair assessments and while yesterday must have hurt like hell, you are able, unlike some of your colleagues, to take it on the chin and be objective. Banter aside, fair play chap, much appreciated.

" The referee (Paul Tierney I believe) was excellent yesterday. "

Seriously? First half he gave you literally every damn decision. He stopped the game constantly. He pushed OIson back twice on a throw in, just let the game flow man he was an absolute disgrace. The linesman wasn't much better, got in Chambers way on a throw in! Hilarious officiating.

I'm not blaming him on us losing we deserved to, but his performance was an embarrassment.

For the record, I've been to games where referees for whatever reason have given us every decision and I've been scratching my head as to why!

" I certainly don't understand the binmen giving him stick. " That makes two of us, McCarthy has worked miracles at us but 75% of most teams " fans " are either fickle/ thick or both.

Sorry westlake, but that bit about the officiating is just pure make believe on your part. He did pull Olsson back once but to be fair he was about 15 yards too far forward! If anything, the biggest decision he had to make may have gone against City (the penalty call). Considering WE seem to get dogs abuse from Ipswich fans for moaning about officials, I'm staggered at the outrage many of your fans are showing towards yesterdays officials considering he had absolutely no effect on the outcome.

In fact, my old man was at the game and when I asked him about his thoughts on the ref commented 'I didn't even notice him'.

I must say I agree. Sign of a good ref.

The only complaint I have about the ref is, when he should have been showing Mings a yellow card, he appeared to be having a laugh and joke with him!

I think outrage is a bit strong supers, I haven't seen any outrage just pure opinions. nobody has put the result down to him in the slightest.

one of the weirdest decisions I felt was murphs shoulder barge (perfectly legal I still believe) on the big unit that is bassong.

I must say I felt for the linesman on our half for the first half, it must be nightmare for him to get a doctors appointment this morning for repetitive strain injury to his shoulder due to lewis grabban-offside. <laugh>

Grabban's persistent offside in the first half (although at least one of them was a bit harsh as it was clearly borderline and he was coming back to collect the ball) was really quite annoying

But I don't get why that's a source of complaint from Binners nor what it has to do with the officiating

that doesn't matter, coming back or not.

and we are not complaining, just observing.
