The Ref is just trying to protect himself. He didn't see it clearly, he guessed. But instead of having the balls to say he couldn't see it clearly and at he guessed as to committed the foul. He's claiming he did see it so he's protecting John O'Shea from any just punishment. The man is a coward and yet another disgrace to referees in this country. The standard is shocking. Give the lower league Refs a shot I say.

The man paid a professional wage to uphold the laws of the game is actively letting the real perpetrator go unpunished to save his own arse.

He could have also just been a man about it. Both O'Shea and Brown said it was the other way around. The Ref could have just said alright, I will take your words for it and given the red to O'Shea. There was a time when people took other people at their words.

So true. 'Professional Referees' are ruining the game imo.

Just trying to put myself in the ref's line of thinking here:

'I'm a professional Ref, I made the wrong call because I didn't see it, it could have been one of two people but I've guessed as to who it must likely was having astablished there must have been a foul, I've issued the red and players are telling me I'm wrong. How silly will I look if I change my mind? I'll stick with my decision. Full time goes, I'm getting the impression that I completely ballsed this it up If I say I didn't see it yet made the call that could be my 70k a year down the ****ter. But If I say I saw it then mistakes happen, nobody is immune, at worst I'll get a couple of Championship games. It will mean the real perpetrator gets off scot free because the rules are set up that way but so what? So what if the integrity of the game rests in my hands? My 70k a year is more important.'

This must have been his train of thought. Abolish Pro Refs imo. There's Lower league refs who'd happily finish work at the office on a Friday and referee a top flight game the next day for just expenses, they used to. They'd officiate with pride and do everything to keep the integrity of the game in tact.

Sorry lads. Rant over. Just sick of the Refereeing standards recently.

I can't believe anyone is suggesting a ref should listen to a player.

I'm no fan of the reffing standards we're subjected to but players are mostly cheating lieing ****ers on the pitch.

We should win this but I can see us losing it because that's how we roll. If it ain't hard it ain't fun.

    Much like the ref's.

I can't help having this impending feeling of doom when we face Hull. I'm not optimistic. I think we'll get a point at best.

I hope not, the more they have on the pitch the worse they play against us.

So it looks like Johnson's battle is going to be either against Figueroa or Robertson. That makes me think that Bruce will select Figueroa again as he is the better defender, which will again blunt our attacking edge, just as it did at Stoke...ffs!

I'm really not defending refs Funky, but honestly, players are just as bad mostly.

I've got a bad feeling too btw. Couple of my mates are Mackems and I have a nasty feeling karma is about to kick me in the arse, lol, which is fair enough!

Dreading it. Can't wait till it's over. I'm on putting the match thread together at the moment and it's making it worse. The last four games you've got a 9-1 agg lead. We've only scored one goal in the last 4 games which included two relegation rivals. We're slow to push out, we move the ball slowly, there's no movement off the ball, we're slow to break, we're ineffective down the middle. We're all over the shop. I know you haven't been flying yourselves but at least you've got a couple strikers who can put the ball in the net. We've got one who's five and a half foot and getting long balls lobbed up to him in sheer desperation.

Being an optimist generally I going to say a draw but deep down I expect defeat for this one. The faith has been sucked out of me. :(

Hah we're the same for this. We have 3 strikers capable of banging them in. Problem is they need to be on the pitch.

He's been ****ing awesome this year fella, bout the only player I have full confidence. I understand you've been ineffective down in the middle this season? If we had Bridcutt in for Catts you'd walk through our midfield. If he'd been booked against Man U he would have been suspended. Bit of a blow for you he wasn't trust me.

Open the game quick and direct you could be home free just as we're walking up at half time.

Kinell Funky, can you nip into the dressing room and give your lads the team talk. We'll have you beaten before you step on the pitch.

Mate of mine is a big fan of your lads and he's basically given up too.

I've taken the tack of saying that we'll both stay up 'cos there's 3 teams worse than both of us.

    Believe!

Good luck for the rest of the season (after Tues obs). You're needed in the Premier League, if only to keep the Mags in their place.

We've both have squads that should comfortably stay up. It's mixture of bad luck with injury and incompetent leadership which has us in this mess. We're both way too good to go down on paper.

Good luck to you too. You may be 'minnows' in the grand scheme but you're an old club with a proud history and is still producing history. I'd hate for relegation to put you in trouble because of that mental bloke who owns you. Too many foreign owners have flushed our football history down the drain because they see our clubs as little play things they've taken on as a hobby.
