Craig Gordon has got to be on his way out with this latest news.... El Mereikh's Egyptian goalkeeper Essam El Hadary is hoping for a move to English Premier League club Sunderland. The veteran keeper who is currently in action in the ongoing Cecafa Kagame Cup told SuperSport.com, "I am currently in talks with English side Sunderland and this might be my last appearance for El Mereikh if everything goes as planned." "Many clubs have been chasing for my signature including Newcastle but after this tournament I will go to Cairo and relax with my family before deciding what next. I have always wanted to play in the English Premier League and I feel this is a great opportunity for me to make the move." Considered the best goalkeeper to emerge from Africa, El-Hadary represented Egypt 120 times, winning the African Cup of Nations four times with his country. He was chosen as the best goalkeeper in the 2006 African Cup of Nations, held in homeland Egypt and in the 2008 African Cup of Nations, held in Ghana and he was the best goalkeeper for the 2010 African Cup of Nations, held in Angola. In Tanzania he has played a big role for El Mereikh saving two penalties and scoring twice as they beat Ulinzi Stars to make the semifinals.
There could be some legs in this one, when you consider that Carson looks to be moving on to PNE and Gordon is heavilly linked with Arsenal. That would leave us with 2 relatively inexperienced keepers for the coming season. I suppose an experienced keeper such as El Hadary can't do any harm and would surely have some influence over our younger keepers.
A 38 year old Egyptian goalkeeper..... I think somebody just thought. He wants to play in England. Sunderland have Elmo. Therefore he WILL sign for Sunderland. Agent talk
Can't see it myself Dorset even if Flash moved on this off season. The other two are more than capable so why add to the wage bill after all the good work be currently done in this area. Surely if things are tight the academy can help or a loan can be brought in mid-season.
"In Tanzania he has played a big role for El Mereikh saving two penalties and scoring twice" he scores goals aswell? sign him up
But if they sign him, he'll be labelled the next big thing, where is we got him, he'll be nowt but a tutunkhamun's reject.
Aye remember him saving Deans Saunders penalty when he was at Man City. Was a great pen as well, low hard, bottom corner. Class.
It has got to be bullshit, doesn't fit in with what M.Ashley wants to do, besides we have 3 very capable keepers anyway. Makes no sense that we would want him.
