Tobes, an official sponsor of the club replacing the eternal flames with coffee cups is ****ing tacky, whatever way you look at it. Would marie curie replace its daffodil emblem with the plant from Little Shop of Horrors, even if they were offered shed loads of money for cancer research to do it?

Really don't want to be sanctimonious about this (Like Matth and his article on Danny Murphy 'disrespecting' Munich last week, but someone from OUR club, not DD, should have said no. That's not exactly asking for a minute's silence and not to play on 14th April though.

Think most of the reaction is way overboard to be honest. It's not the Liverpool symbol. They haven't taken away the flames of Hillsborough and put drinks there to piss off people, they have simply put brand-related stuff in the same format to show the ties they have to the club, the most offensive part being that it looks like a three-year old designed it. This is absolute sensationalist garbage, and quite honestly, any old excuse to revert back to the poor families of the Hillsborough victims for a throwaway quote to make headlines. My opinion is, nowt to see here.

  5. Not one person as claimed they did it intentionally. They should have done their research and/or passed it by the club first.

Yet the fact it's pissed people off AT ALL is surprising. Well I say surprising. How many of you were aware of this issue before the news reported it? None, unless you happen to be a sad twat who follows donuts on twitter <laugh>... Why do News print stuff like this? A) To get a reaction to print more news on that news...B) advertisement for major conglomerates. It's a culture of being offended for the sake of it.

Is this really something that should upset somebody? Is it worth giving two ****s about, with all of other life's issues, just because someone has done a poor marketing effort at the "Liverpool symbol"? It's absolutely your right to be offended, if you want to be go ahead, but if I were a Liverpool fan, there's far more offensive things that actually concern the club and the supporters.

  7. Did you not see the uproar when Warrior Sports put the flames on the back of the Liverpool shirt after opting to revert to the old style club crest?

It's about respect and remembering. It may just be a image to some but it means a hell of a lot more to others!

Quite aside from the main point, this is a weird argument. There are many things that I wouldn't be aware of before the news reported it. That's one of the main reasons for having news agencies.

My take is that this is all a massive overreaction. Maybe i dont understand why people would be outraged at an image in the same shape but in no way is a copy or a parody of the liverpool badge.

Sorry if it sounds controversial but As an outsider and not inside the brain of liverpool fans / hillsborough victims but this is about as overblown as the feminist mum who complains about a toy being advertised for boys and their little girl being offended.

Sometimes you need to pick your fights, this isnt one of them, its the police who have been covering up the disaster where the energies need to be spent

Bobby read the thread mate, if you find any real outrage fine, we just don't think that the yanks understand things that are important to us.

Its only looks bad if it came to light that FSG ok'd it, if not it was a genuine mistake by one of our sponsors, end of story.

It seems there's more outrage by non Liverpool supporters at our perceived outrage.

  13. And the media love to over exaggerate everything too. A story like this could run for a few days if the reaction is right (or wrong as would be more appropriately put)

The actual primary purpose of news was to report on current affairs, domestically and internationally. What it has descended into is faux-twitter-celeb reality TV. "Ooooooh look what they said in 140 characters. BE OFFENDED". Then they start interviewing people, inevitably find someone who'll be offended on somebody else's behalf, and they can start a month long campaign of talking about something pretty trivial. Slightly easier and cheaper than sending someone to a warzone, or to explain complex foreign policy. Meanwhile, reporting on real issues facing the world and domestic scene are ignored. There are major wars going on right now, major news, but the f***ing BBC have got this absolute codswallop on their news page near the top? Ridiculous.

Well this thread did start that somebody should be sacked for it <laugh>

To be fair, our two cents might have a horrendous exchange rate on this board, but I think we are just trying to keep the argument level headed and balanced, or that certainly was my objective anyway.

I don't know you so have no experience of your posting style or intent but personally I think rivals should know which arguments to steer well clear of and telling people who lost someone at Hillsborough what they should or shouldn't be offended by , isn't your call to make. So do the decent thing and leave it alone <ok>
