It's a good way to play in Europe if you make any break count... It's how we won in 2005

  2. Especially with two up top with Sterling just behind, none of which were defending.

This team is piss poor by comparison though, Roger is right BR got his tactics completely wrong tonight, if wed have scored in the first half they would have left themselves wide open afterwards chasing the goals theyd need and we could have sat back and caught them on the break.

Sturridge(greedy) and Sterling(dithering) were the main reason that goal never came when we were on top.<grr>

Feeling ill so slept through the match and watched the recording afterwards. Meant I missed extra-time and pens though. What the hell happened second half? We were totally in control in the first 45 minutes, and should have put the tie to bed with better finishing, which seems to be our big problem at the moment. Second half we were totally overrun in midfield, the introduction of Atslan made the real difference. That said, we restricted them to long shots until the 90th minute (unfortunately, the one on 72 minutes was a blinder).

Thought the defence and keeper all did really well, albeit we missed Can and Sakho's passing out from the back, and Ibe/Manquillo couldn't get too involved going forward. Allen looked great and consistent first half, while Can was a bit hit and miss - some good stuff, some awful stuff. Both were completely overrun second half. Don't know why BR didn't bring on Lallana sooner; it was obvious we needed another midfielder. Balotelli was involved, while Steling and Sturridge definately had off-nights.

To me, Sturridge looks a bit short of match fitness psychologically. Hanging onto the ball too long, taking too many touches, trying to do everything... Maybe it's overconfidence, maybe it's trying to live up to the expectations of all the fans saying that it would all be better when Sturridge is back, but he just doesn't seem to be settled and playing naturally yet, albeit he's been back for a few games now. Although obviously it was a long time out. Last season he would have taken one of those chances, you feel.

Shame we're out of the EL. That's one less way into the CL, one less English team in the competition, and one more defeat in a wretched European campaign for us. Congrats to Everton who look to be sailing through, and to Besiktas, who dominated after 45 minutes.

Who took our pens in the end? I know Lovren missed, and I gather from the above that Lambert and Lallana scored? Was Studge subbed off by then?

Lambert, Lallana, Allen, Can and Lovren. Sterling chickened out (not for the first time tonight).

Thought Besiktas deserved it (just) over the two legs.We lost control of the game in the second half, overrun in midfield time and again.
We look leggy in too many areas, probably for the best we are out of this comp. I think our overall squad quality has improved, but three
competitions right now has proved too much for us. All part of the learning curve for our young squad,BR included.

Its all about top 4 now :emoticon-0165-muscl

    Well played Besiktas <applause>

  8. How do you know it wasn't Brods choice who took them?

Sounds about right. Sadly missed most of the first leg, but sounded like it was fairly tight. On half each tonight. I thought we probably created the better chances (with the exception of Ba's chance in the 90th minute), but the difference was that they actually finished one of theirs (and finished it very well).

  10. Can't agree with that. We had decent players such as Hyypia, Carragher and Alonso but we had incredibly **** ones like Troare, Biscan and Diao too! We had to play the likes of Mellor and Pongolle.

The good outweighed the bad in 2005 and the quality players then were better quality than now.

Oh and we had a better manager in 2005.

I just hope that we're not knackered for the next 2 home games. I don't like the way that we went out and I'm not sure that we learnt anything at all but it may just prove to be a blessing in disguise. I expect to be beaten on Sunday as we'll be knackered but to bounce back on Wednesday. <ok>

Danny Ings hat-trick to a) make sure we buy him and b) increase the compensation payment?

  15. I may have missed a world class Gerrard from 2005 <whistle>

That team had a few better individuals and probably were a better 'team' but my point was it's not clear cut had we had ****ter players then too

    2015

    Liverpool
    • 22 Mignolet
    • 04 K TourĂ©
    • 37 Skrtel
    • 06 Lovren
    • 33 Ibe (Manquillo - 76' )
    • 23 Can Booked

Is it? 2005 was a god awful team blessed with alonso and a young gerrard... Currently we have nobody at all then????

1-0 up and bring solid is not the way?
Nah.... We had who we had and only lallana on bench. Imo you try and keep the lead and snatch one

If if if... Can could have... Sturridge should have.... After that well defending well until one fabulous shot goes in on 73 mins sounds very European like to me

I would me more happy that rodgers showed at least some awareness that is how Europe works than turn up chasing a game he didn't need to just cos we are supposedly only able to attack. I'd chalk that up for a piece of evidence that he's not just David Brent

You basically can't blame the manager for not attacking enough then turn round and blame the players for not scoring the chances we did get.

Dudek, prob one of the worst keepers we had though wearer elf was really bad at times no better than mingolet
    Finnan consistent, hard working, reliable
    Traore worst defender ever
    Hyppia big tall immobile legend
    Carragher hoofer ;)
Riise very average left midfield, was a good lb filling in
Garcia. Frustratingly inconsistent, capable of genius and suicidal passing in his own half a moment later
    Alonso worldie
    Gerrard worldie
    kewell lazy waster
    Baros useless head down player

Hamann, past it but great player
    Snicker very average
    Cisse a dope

Biscan, Nunez and josemi ha ha ha

Somehow the though I have to compare a fully fit 2005 to a team shorn of 8 players with kids on the bench

Tobes would tell you to give your head a wobble.

Outside of two really worldies in midfield and a pair of legends at CB of course our current side is far more talented in fairness to it

I would contend that the squad is far better too as 2005 was all about defending like mad and scraping through the rounds juve was all about one amazing strike and suffocation of them. Chelsea was same

Yet.... Oh rodgers should never player this way.... No sorry Europe is all about getting the result. We failed to do it

    Tough

We failed to win on pens

    Tough

We gave it a good shot so fair enough
