    Moyes had magic powers.

By adding Fellaini to the squad he erased in one sweep all that the rest of the squad had ever done before he arrived so that by the time he left they were all HIS squad and so therefore now ****e.

Don't give a **** about his CV tbh. The last thing we need is a manager like Benitez, who keeps us plodding along with no chance of winning the league, gives us a string of excuses whilst pointing to his CV, and ends up leaving us in mid table for five years after selling some of our best players and breaking others.

Judge LVG on what he achieves with us - if he gets top four, or within sniffing distance then he can have the benefit of the doubt. If we collapse back to 5th or 6th, as we look like doing at the moment, then he has failed, CV or not.

    My thoughts exactly.

What he's done previously is completely irrelevant if he fails to cut it with us. Are we going to be happy floundering about bragging that he won the league in a different country with a different club like Liverpool fans did with Benitez?

As I said at the start, I'm not necessarily saying he should be sacked if we don't get top four, although he will have failed massively, I'm saying he MIGHT given the level of investment they've given him.
They gave Moyes nothing (relatively) and sacked him, LVG has had everything he wants (he's even turned down plenty if rumours are true) and so has no excuses whatsoever.

I dunno if it's fair to say they gave Moyes nothing. Depends on how you view his pursuit of Tiago, Fabregas, Herrera etc in the summer, and whether that was Moyes failing to land them or the club not giving him the necessary support and decisiveness. The fact the club pulled £28m and £37m out of the bag in just a few hours for Fellaini and Mata indicates that a lot of the problem may have been Moyes' approach rather than the funds available.

Ultimately all we've learned over the past two years is how great a manager SAF was. He massively overachieved with his final squad, Moyes then underachieved, and now LVG has us just about where we should based on the players we have. Not yet as good as City or Chelsea, better than Liverpool and Spurs, about the same as Arsenal and Saints. If the season finished today, I think LVG would have just about met expectations for the league.

The key is going to be in how LVG moves forwards for the rest of the season and how he prepares for next year. Ultimately a club the size of Utd, with the squad issues we have and the competitiveness of the league at the moment, is always going to be more than a one year 'project'.

If we replace LVG, then all we can really expect from his replacement next year is another 3rd or 4th place finish whilst they adapt their philosophy to that of the club's. So if there's to be any point keeping him on, then we have to believe he can push on over the summer and put us in the line for a solid title challenge next year.

May be too early to come out with statements of that nature. We've go to play each other again yet.

I love how you zoom straight to that comment, ignoring the fact that we also still have to play four out of the other five clubs I listed too! So it's fine to say we're better than Spurs, although is it also too early to say we're not as good as City and Chelsea? ;)

Simple fact is that, after 26 games played, we have more points than you, have scored more goals, and have a much better GD. Ergo better. I didn't say we'd end the season like that - my whole point is that LVG has to keep us where we are which is going to be the big challenge. If we're still scrapping for third and fourth with a couple of the clubs off that list then fine, but if we've dropped back to fighting for fifth or sixth, where you and Spurs are now, then it will be a failure.

    I don't think, therefore I'm not.

There are realistically 4 clubs fighting for two places in the top 4. 2 of the places are, it's probably safe to say, nailed on. It's always a big game between us and you, but this coming one has even more resonance than usual. Win that and I think you've probably got top 4. Lose and who knows what happens after that. It's a bloody funny old season, that's for sure <laugh>

Arsenal, Utd, Saints and who else? ;)

In all seriousness, I wouldn't write any of the top seven off right now - Saints have been right in the thick of it since the start and have refused to collapse despite a number of setbacks, and that bad losing run in December. They could well snatch 4th, particularly given how poor everyone else has been.

I have to disagree. IF all you want from the next guy is to achieve top 4 next season, why not let LVG just continue. Dont see the point of further instability, players falling out of favour with the new guy, another proposed rebuild, AND the unknown element of another season with someone new who could succeed or fail.
LVG's CV is important bcos he has proved himself at the highest level. I'm not saying he's proving himself to be brilliant right now but his experience suggests he is more than capable of doing so given time. I think our circumstances are completely different to Liverpool so comparisons to Rafa are immaterial. I believe in giving the manager time. LVG seems to me to be someone who needs that. And given time he will settle and he will improve.

    You don't agree with what?

I don't think anyone has actually said he should be sacked if we don't get to four, just that he might be.
And that he will have failed in the job he was given, which in this first season is to get us back into the CL.

Brentan is nothing if not an arrogant prick with zero reason to be so.

Brenda is as average as you can get. And if the RS fans are honest they believe that too. The best they can achieve with him is a CL place and that first premiership title will not be theirs for another decade. If they can't do it with the Rat then they have no chance with the likes of Can, Henderson and Sturridge...

It's just you say you don't agree and then follow it up with why he shouldn't be changed.

Not sure what else that suggests?

I was trying to cover a couple of points. I know nobody is saying he should be sacked but you and/or swarbs give the impression you understand why he may be, and also whether he is what we need, and the point of keeping him or changing him. I can't understand him being sacked at all, giving my reason, mainly the last thing we need is more instability.
Secondly, his CV is important. I couldnt give a fck about what he's won either (although I'd rather a manager who has than one who hasnt) but my reference to CV was about the experience he brings. He's managed at the highest level and his successes prove he's more likely to know how to deal with rebuilding a big club like United.

LvG was probably the best manager available last season
