Well for me........... If you tried this sort of campaign on with a real brand like disney they would go nuts at you for thier royalty. clearly the commercial department at LFC HQ in boston thought nothing of selling off our club crest for whatever they got so I'd like to hear that some frm of systematic approach to such campaigns in the future is developed. what is and is not up for grabs... social media campaigns are all about trying to tweek some interest and hopefully something goes viral. they are always trying to find something that will grab attention. this is not about apologies for them. I would say dunking donuts simply said oh.. thats not going to work pull that unfavorable response. They still have no idea why its important. Surely we have seen "seeing is beleiving2 done by standard chartered but we do not see anyone daring to put an LFC shirt with DD on the front cos they know it will break a commerical rights deal. they latched onto the crest as a free and easy one. If they'd taken the "new" club crest and changed the liverbird to a coffee cup would their target audience recognise it? not so sure. Sure it tacky but they don't care. it was never going to go viral was it... pointless as 99% of social media crap.... they are all chasing the next ice bucket challenge.
And now instead of naming the new main stand after a former manager or something iconic from our club's rich history the yanks are looking for big bucks for the naming rights. http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-fc-confirm-seek-naming-8724360 Maybe it'll end up that Dunkin Donuts put a bid in.
'Gaffe' hardly describes it but how is the club to blame for a rubbish campaign by one of it's partners? The club never endorsed it - 'stay classy Liverpool' just another opportunity to have a dig.
If you take money off tacky corporations for commercial tie ups then you should expect tacky marketing to accompany it.
Or Vaseline ..... That report said traditional values will be upheld and I don't think we value confectionary all that much so here's hoping ...
Here's some #epically cringe-inducing ads from Man Utd They make Liverpool's Nivea ad look like an Oscar winner (if the Oscars weren't ****e) Seriously, make sure you're in a safe environment if you dare press play
Don't have a problem with that to be honest. Yes would be nice to have it meaning something but you can name other parta of the club after historic people like the aha joy gates etc. If this generates 30m towards construction for example then all good (assuming it doesn't end up with a stupid name)
We should terminate the contract. Some things are more important than money. Did they not think to run it by the club first?
Is what I was saying. There must be something in the contract we have with them that says what is off limits.
Maybe it is... maybe i have fallen into a lopp of non seriousness i will never get out of but.... I thought the day we signed on with Dunking donuts that it was tacky and we've seen the cheverolet stuff etc etc... I just don't tink you can take these guys on without ending up doing cheese look at turkish airline ad with drogba and messi... thats total cheese.
you would think so......... HOWEVER.... We must see also that sometimes things are honest mistakes and this company didn't set out to offend anyone. i'd say they got quite a shock.... The fault is in commercial team at anfield as i said originally.
Obviously they didn't intend on offending anyone but they have. You'd like to think a sponsor would check the meaning to something associated to the club if they plan on adapting it for their own use. They should definitely check the draft over with the club!
I see your point, but the fans won't get a sniff of the 30m, the fans will ultimately pay for the refurb through higher ticket prices and higher food and drink prices.
