Well if you remember there were only inmates(except the 2 employees and the 1 inmate doctor) so there isnt much to take over, its just an empty planet. Why not abadnon the planet altogether? I imagine in real life they probably wouldnt, thats a big investment that a few prisoners can do the upkeep on for free. I think the real reason they didnt put any weapons ie the M41A Pulse Rifle, or the M56 Smart Gun was that they wanted to go back to the Alien horror model instead of the Aliens Sci-Fi model remember there were no weapons in Alien. I think it was simply a choice about the kind of movie they wanted to make.

The images that he released a few months ago have the right feel to them so I see no reason not to look forward to it at this point. The concept art has Hicks/Ripley and Newt so hopefully they will pick up the story line from where it was supposed to go after Aliens and basically say FU to Alien 3. If they pick up the story line it would be set about 10 years after Hicks/Ripley and Newt return to earth.

Xmen did something similar and did an FU to their third movie after it killed off three of its characters and, using the Days of Futures Past movie, altered the time sequence so that those three characters didn't die and the third movie never happened. I'm not expecting the travel in this but it seems they may be "unwriting" the third film.

They can bring back Hicks easy enough without unwriting Alien 3. After Aliens all Space Marine grunts are androids anyway so that's easy.

Ripley was cloned in the books and comics and although that happened later there is no reason that it cant have been done earlier.

Newt is the one that would be weird to clone if they follow the story line she would need to be alive and be a non-cloned human. That is the hard one to fix as she is a pretty important character as she basically fills the Ripley characters role after Aliens.

They could "unwrite" it by having Alien 3 be a cyro nightmare sort of like the short nightmare she had in the beginning of Aliens.

Looks like the angle they might be going in is different then bringing Hicks back. This is a pic of Tom Woodruff who was a special effects guy on most of the Alien films and even played the Alien a few times. This is clearly a recreation of the Hicks image that Blomkamp had created. The key is the name on the armor, it is from Private Wierzbowski who was attacked by an Alien in the scene were they get their asses kicked. Wierzbowski was never shown to die, so it looks like Blomkamp may be leaning towards a movie in which some of the Colonial Marines who went MIA and were never confirmed killed somehow escape the Aliens and survived the nuclear blast. If you remember they realized that some of their men were still alive including the Sargent but they decided not to go try and find them.

Alien 3 and 4 were pretty ****ing ****. Especially Alien 3.

Aliens > Alien. Not even a contest.

Neil Blomkamp will do a great job. He's had a couple iffy moments in films but expect the film to be full of futuristic tech and he'll probably make a big emphasis on the android.

Either before or after Alien 3 but certainly before Alien Resurrection (which happens 200 years after Alien 3). It was 57 years in between Alien and Aliens and they never explained how much time was lost in between Aliens and Alien 3 due to hypersleep. This movie if it really is going to involve the MIA Colonial Marines including Wierzbowski on LV-426 then it could very well occur before Alien 3. Lets say it doesnt occur on LV-426 but Weyland Corp realizes that only Hicks was on the ship that crashed in Alien 3 and then they go back to LV-426 to see about survivors(and more aliens for their experiments and weaponization projects) and they discover that some of the MIA Colonial Marines survived (one imagines there well be aliens alive as well) and the movie starts either there or at some point afterwards then it would happen after Alien 3.

The movie could also involve the MIA Colonial Marines and the Alien home world as the sequel to Aliens was supposed to be 10 years later and involve the Marines (including hicks and newt) going to the Alien home world in order to capture an Alien queen for Weyland Corporation. Even then it would occur before Alien Resurrection.

Its been confirmed now. Weaver is returning to the picture. It will be a direct sequel to Aliens so it will occur after Aliens and will be the end of Rippley's character. The images he released are not just concept art but are specific scenes from the movie which means Hicks and others will be returning. Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection are simply being disregarded and they are no longer considered cannon in the franchise.

I'm very happy this has been confirmed.

With Neill Blomkamp as director and Ridley Scott producer, as well as Sigourney Weaver returning, I think this is in safe hands.

Also, erasing the **** films from the canon (something the X-Men franchise did brilliantly with Days of Future Past) is a massive step in the right direction.

Its all the same universe so it counts. Of course that scene was an homage to Billy's challenge in Predator.

Well I grew up after Star Wars so I didnt have that. When I lived in Europe we only had a few vhs tapes. We had Alien, Aliens and Predator among others(red sonya, conan stuff like that). When I lived in Greece we werent allowed outside much for fear of being kidnapped or killed by Nov 17th or other groups so I have probably watched all 3 hundreds of times each as there probably wasnt a day in which I didnt watch one of them. For some reason we didnt have kids movies and my sister and I would play Predator or Aliens as opposed to cops and robbers or cowboys and indians. Later I read the Alien/Predator books and comics after we came back to the US, not that either are much for a reading level but once you get into something as a kid it seems to stick with you.

Blade Runner doesn't need a sequel. It's a masterpiece all on it's own.
