We're in a position where certain players are going to either really step us up to the next level in quality, or leave us lingering around the same level we were last season. These players are those who are currently unproven in the EPL, but have real potential to meet or even exceed our expectations.

Players where we know of their ability in this league:

    Krul - good
    Simpson
    Colo - awesome
    S Taylor
    Enrique - awesome
    Tiote - awesome
    Ben Arfa - awesome
    Barton - awesome
    Jonas
Ferguson - good (could get better)
Ba - awesome if he maintains the same goalscoring record

N'Zogbia (a potential signing if we get him)

Players who are going to prove themselves next season:

    Marveaux
    Cabaye
    Gosling
    Vuckic

Erding (a potential signing if we get him)

So, that's four players (possibly 5+) who are really going to dictate our quality. If Marveux becomes the quality winger we need, Cabaye lives up to expectations, Gosling performs well and Vuckic lives up to his potential, then we could have four great players on our hands for next season - maybe 5 if Erding turns up (or another foreign striker).

I hope Cabaye lives up to the potential, I'm considering getting him on my home strip.

Agreed with pretty much all of them but i would say Simpson has to prove that he is still improving next year. Credit to him he came along way this year but he has to keep getting better or it may be a position we have to look at

Same. Even though I've never seen an interview with him or seen him play in our strip, I'm quite fond of him.

    Weird <yikes>

Aye, he's had a good first season - let's see if he can do it again before we can call him proven! Here's hoping he can <ok>

I saw this thread's title and expected the following squad and
    potential 'also ran' player's names:

    Shola Ameobi
    Leon Best
    Peter Løvenkrands
    Ryan Taylor
    Mike Williamson
    Steve Harper

Are these guys the ones being told by Pardew to live as being also rans or
in the case of a couple, genuine prospects that could (if given the break)
prove themselves (excluding Ameobi of course...)?

Abeid too. Forgot about him. He could end up being a class act, we never know.

Fair enough - bit late for me maybe's

Even accepting a wafer thin squad many of the existing 'keeping up the numbers' or
'back up' second choice players I've listed like (Best and Raylor) are in a position
where they know it will take another's injury to get any play and it's being mentioned
are being told by Pardew to like it or lump it ATM and can walk if they want to.

I think it's a bit sad Best seemed to step up to the task and made a go of keeping us
afloat in the second half of the past season and is being told he's not part of future
plans when Ameobi sits there totally useless but invisible to the chop.

Hey, maybe because I've been up since 5:30am today I'm not making sense - sorry!

  15. Cabaye has been the best signing so far. His vision and passing look class.

Yeah I have high hopes for Cabaye too, and if hes pushing himself into the French squad by the end of the year then we know he has done well...

Also I dont think Guthrie has been mentioned yet, him and Simpson have to slightly step it up in my eyes, on their day they seem to be very talented however can be prone to inconsistency....

Plus I'd really like to see Vuckic given alot more of a chance this season!!
