The race for the top four trophy

Discussion in 'Manchester United' started by Chief, Feb 23, 2015.

  1. No way Rooney will leave. Whether he wants to or not is irrelevant, no one will be willing to pay his wages let alone the fee Man Utd would want for him.

Well duh, I'd have thought that obvious!!

Could concentrating on winning it be detrimental to securing fourth though? At what point does Brentan go all out for one, or will he have to hedge his bets on securing both?

The fact is, there's only us and Saints don't have Europe to worry about for now and it should give us an advantage for as long as you lot, Arsenal and Spurs remain in their competitions.

We all know what Arsenal will concentrate on, will Liverpool and Spurs do likewise and throw in the European towel soon?

  3. Well yeah, I think its obvious but some others aren't so keen because of the reason you said highlighted above. We can't afford to put all our eggs in one basket so we have to balance it right. remember we still have FA Cup games too. This is where we could fall away IMO, too many games and although we have squad numbers, the quality is somewhat deflated with some of the squad players we have.

Not having Europe should definitely give you guys the advantage. Not so sure about Saints though, they've lasted longer than I thought they would this season but its starting to slowly slip away IMO.

At least the FA cup are instead of a league game, not in between.

Although I think as of now they start playing PL games on FA cup weekend so being in it means playing catch up. Then there's replay's.

Not sure f this could be called an advantage but playing on a Thursday in EL means you'll always play on a Sunday after it. Does knowing what your rivals have done help or heap more pressure?

Hope it helps us. We play both spurs amd Liverpool after they play in europa.

van gaal will do himself no harm by winning at Anfield. Especially if it turns out to be a few points between us in the end. Giggs will have to explain the hatred.

The way we're playing Van Gaal do himself no harm if we draw at anfield. I was confident before we played them last. How the Fock can someone be on the brink of getting to so right during that period, now be getting this wrong.

Anyway whether we get top 4 or not, we shouldn't sack him. I'd give him the benefit of the doubt considering his CV.

I don't think he should be sacked if we don't get CL football. Though he would have to show more progress. As I firmly believe we are as bad as last year and our league position is false because so many other teams have been ****.

I've been trying to find out points total after the same number of games last season but can't <grr>

We have more points. 5 i think.

Others being **** isnt the case. A number of teams over performed last season and have simply reverted to type.

Liverpool are a 50-60 point team. Upper Midtable with an occasional foray into the top 4. Arsenal are a 60-70 point team. Everton are a 50 point team and Spurs are 50-60 point team.

Those 4 had their best seasons in 5 years last year. A once off occurance. They are now playing at their level and this the table is a better reflection of the leagues true quality.

Therrs many more sides doing a lot better than last season though. Only a few are doing worse.

City are not where near where they were last season. Also Chelsea are winning without playing well. Everyone is closer together.

I don't take 5 points better off after the money we spent as progress. To me I wonder how **** LVG would have done with the tools moyes had at his disposal.

Or how much better off United would be now if Moyes had have been given the same spending as LVG.

It's debatable. Moyes looked a bit clueless and lost the dressing room.

But in direct comparison I don't take one more win and two more draws as much progress considering the quality we have brought in.

If you get 3rd or 4th despite the teething problems it is progress but 5th and the EL will ruin next season for Utd, they might as well finish were they did last season than 5th.

I'm hoping you get Thursday night footy.

Bottom 3. Moyes was that poor.

Moyes had a team of multiple premier league champions. He added 70 million to it.

Van gaal took over a side that finished 7th. He spent more but then he had 6 places to make up before getting us back to the level before moyes.

Spurs and liverpool have both spent similar amounts in recent years. On many occasions in Liverpools case. They have achieved nothing, won nothing and done nothing. Liverpool progressed a little briefly but have since regressed. Tottenham have gone backwards.

For me the money isnt important. It had to be spend because we lost far more in experience and leadership the same summer. We also suffered our worst season in decades and the players were on the floor.

This season we are not playing well. Not a big deal as we are still getting results and most importantly that never give up attitude is creeping back in. Moyes would never have given the players the belief they now have. We went behind under moyes and we lost. We faced any side on par or better and we lost.

    We lost EIGHT home games.

12 games left. Moyes was crumbling right now. We were dire. Worse than anything seen this season compared with moyes betweem now and game 34.

The £70 is still there was n the shape of 2 players, didnt LVG take over a team of multiple league champions plus Mata and Fellaini?

Its not like he started with none of the Fergie champions.

No he took over a side that finished 7th. A couple had been apart of former glories but many of the side had won nothing witg united.

If Moyes only signed two players the rest were part of Fergie's champions squad.

Many have now left. We singed 6 and promoted several youngsters. Most of our squad have won no titles with United.

That's not what I asked as you well know UIR.<laugh>

LVG had the opinion to get rid of Fergie's players, the same players Moyes had no choice but to keep.

Sweat's got the progress debate spot on.
