Not necessarily. The Spuds could win the Capitol one cup and finish 5th. If West Ham finished 6th then one of the places would go to them.

The temporary home is going to be a problem, agreed. As to the consequences of paying for the new stadium, I don't think it will impact us that much - mainly due to our good financial management, and other reasons I've already given.

That's an extremely optimistic view of it. What's your new stadium going to cost £450m-£500m ? I can't see ENIC bankrolling the whole project without Spurs having to maintain financial prudence on the footballing side of things. Personally I think you'll have to go down a similar route to Arsenal, where your transfer spending will be limited and you'll only be able to spend money from the sale of players (Kane, Erikson for example)

we have good financial management but we still had to pay for the stadium as will you, so where will the £450m it will cost come from? What was your p&l last year

  5. Spurs was always the better financially managed club; everyone reveres Levy as a financial whiz-kid. That's why, according to some people (not me, necessarily), Spurs have made the shift on Arsenal so quickly.

I expect any transfer dealing to be far more targeted, than for immediate impact. We have a very good youth system too. Yes, there will be constraints, but I don't expect any major sales - unless they are forced on us.

Levy may not be my favourite chairman, as a supporter - but financially, he's very astute. He will have figured all of this into his plans a long time ago.

  11. May be not, but that's because they are afraid of your ridicule and scorn, PESKIE; but be under no illusion that many people believe that the power has shifted in North London.

Levy is good at getting top dollar for his player sales, but he is a Turkey when it comes to buying players. There was a lot of speculation that when you pissed most of that £120m up the wall, AVB only actually wanted to buy Paulinho and Erikson, but Levy was so desperate to buy his way into the top 4 that he sanctioned a huge blow out of all the cash. Then AVB was the fall guy for Levy's mistakes. How true that is I don't know, but in the future he is not going to have the luxury of blowing so much cash in the transfer market, unless you sell players like Kane and Erikson, who between them would probably fetch £50m.

How do we get these players that we sell for enormous sums of money, if Levy's crap at buying people?

Your imaginary friends don't count HIAG. Nobody on here is saying that there has been a power shift to Spurs from Arsenal.

There has been a power shift in North London though, from Spurs to Liverpool, as you admitted. It only takes one season of finishing above a team for the power to shift.

This thread should be renamed 'The N17 Power shift to Merseyside'

There is much debate about who was behind many of the transfers, AVB, or Baldini. Either way, it had very little to do with Levy, apart from signing cheques.

Levy is to blame for disastrous management appointments, IMO. But, playing, staff, No.

You didn't buy Kane. He lucked out on Bale and nearly sold him for a pittance when Spurs fans were complaining that he was crap.

We haven't sold Kane. Try again.
Bale wasn't sold for a pittance. Try again.

You asked me about Levy buying players, he didn't buy Kane. But he has bought plenty of overpriced flops.

This will be the route that you're most likely to pursue. It's what we did at Arsenal, with some success but a lot of hit and miss too. The trouble with trying to build a team out of youth players is that some get impatient and want to move on, others don't make the grade and the team lacks experienced leaders.
