Once again, I dusagree with some of your points.

West Ham will undoubtedly end up selling some of their best players. It happened to us, it will happen to them. Bigger clubs will come and cherry pick their best.

There is absolutely no guarantee that they will fill the O.S. Or anything like it.

Yes, they are challenging for a Europa place - I doubt they'll get it and some of their best will probably be off in the summer - there was a strong rumour that we have an agreement in place with Reid, who is out of contract and refusing to sign a new one.

Yes, they could be taken over, but so could we. We all know that Uncle Joe will sell if a decent bid comes in.

My apologies, the use of the term 'power shift' was aimed to clarify the OPs definition of it.

Not necessarily though. West Ham are on the up and Europa League might not only ensure that their best players stay but some more quality players actually join them.

I don't think they'll get there. I imagine bigger clubs are already eyeing up Sakho & Valencia.

As we found out, it's not a matter of being able to afford to keep them. We tried everything to hang on to Bale & Modric. But, when a player has had his head turned (Real being particularly good at this!) it's next to impossible to keep, them. All you can do then is what Levy did - screw every last penny out of the deal.

In my view, it's way too early to be talking about WHU as a top club. If they can manage consecutive top half finishes, that would be a first for them.

Very good points made in this post. With only one win in 5 against West Ham and narrowly avoiding defeat again the other day, the power may well be shiftng towards the Hammers.

As also mentioned, West Ham have secured their new stadium and will reap the benefits of increased match day revenue and the existing infrastructure around the Olympic park, whereas Spurs will have to manage the battle to hang on to their most valuable players and balance the books whilst paying for their new stadium.

Whereas this process for Arsenal saw the huge gap between them and Spurs narrow slightly, it could mean that West Ham, already within touching distance of Spurs, could actually overtake them over the next few years and become London's 3rd placed club.

To be fair, lots of players stayed at Spurs and gave them a chance to improve, before they finally lost patience and went to clubs where they had a chance for success. Bale, Modric, VDV all said they wanted to play CL football with Spurs, but you can't blame them for wanting to go when Spurs couldn't deliver.

The difference with West Ham is that they are on the upwards curve, whereas Spurs have largely stagnated since their solitary CL appearance. If they get Europa football next season, then it could act as an incentive for their best players to stay and attract news ones. Also with the new stadium, it could be the beginning of the platform for West Ham to overtake Spurs.

  7. Yes, it did. One of the more astute gooners came up with the phrase - I can't remember his name, because PESKIE banned him (although I do believe the lad went off and set up another, far better, gooner board, somewhere else, of which I was made an honourary member).

He was about as astute as you, which is probably why you both ended up on the same forum. <ok>

Anyway, please try to stay on topic HIAG, we are discussing whether there is power shift towards West Ham from Spurs and whether they will overtake the spuds in the next few seasons.

  10. I haven't expressed my views on this vital topic, but I will do, now.

Do I think there has been a power-shift in North London? It's too soon to tell. Something is definitely happening, I'm almost certain of that, but what? I don't know. I can't say that the shift has happened, not yet.

Has the power-shift started? Possibly. Again, I think something is definitely happening, again, I'm almost certain of that. I think most reasonably-minded people will want to see some kind of sustained shift (such as us finishing above Arsenal this season), before they make their minds up, and I can certainly see the power in such an argument.

Who knows? Time will unravel its secrets.

That's my opinion, so I hope we can all put these childish arguments to bed about me "sitting on the fence."

Keep up HIAG, we've just been discussing this topic <ok>
There does appear to be a shift of power in North London towards West Ham from Spurs. The bigger question could be, will it be West Ham or Liverpool who overtake Spurs in the next few seasons.

  12. PESKIE, we get it! You are of the view that there hasn't been a North London Power-Shift.

Please, let others have their say, now.

Claims that Arsenal are miles ahead of Spurs due to historical trophy wins, yet places Liverpool behind both Spurs and Arsenal. <laugh>
Consistency's not your strong suit, is it Piskie?

Again, please try to keep up HIAG. I'm saying that there might be a North London power shift from Spurs to West Ham, or from Spurs to Liverpool. Please try to engage with the debate in a sensible manner <ok>

Wrong, I'm saying that Arsenal are ahead of Spurs on historical trophies, recent premier league finishes and current Premier League standing. Liverpool have until recently been finishing behind Spurs and have been below Spurs in the league, but that looks as though it is shifting again. With West Ham also catching up, the pertinent question is which club might overtake Spurs first.

Have Liverpool opted for moving from Anfield or just upgrading it, because if they are just upgrading then they too will be in a better place financialy than Spurs who have opted for a whole new stadium.
also where are Spurs going to play their home games during the building work or is the new stadium situated away from WHL and won't affect their home games

Sorry, Complete nonsense. Bale & Modric are world class talents. Real Madrid came knocking and they decided they wanted to go. The lure of a club like Real is very real, as you will find out if you ever get a player they're interested in!

Yes, players want to win something, which is why RVP left you. But, to class those two in with West Ham players is complete nonsense.

WHU are on a very short upward curve that will last all of one season. Yes, they have a new stadium, courtesy of the local council, but they still have to fill it.

Exactly, you were completely inconsistent, as usual.
We'd have to finish above you for twenty years and be ahead of you in every single trophy, according to your first post on this thread.
Why this isn't the case for either one of us and Liverpool is a mystery.
