You offer kids 30 hours a week to pick up litter or paint churches/mosques for min wage for 17 year old £5 hr approx then you are giving them a gateway to working life , forcing them to do it for £50 a week as well as prove they are actively seeking work and punish them by taking away the minimum that humans need is slavery and Cameron and his ilk will never have to force their offspring to do this.
Yes, all that matters is how people come across in interviews. That Nick Farage, he looks like he's fun to have a pint with! Lets vote for him! That David Cameron. He's got such a nice shiny face, he's so none threatening. I'm sure he only has my best interests at heart. Lets vote for him without even looking at his policies. Oh, That Miliband, he looks a bit geeky. Wouldn't trust him to run a country. Oh the Leader of the Greens didn't do well in an interview. That invalidates everything she says and works for, disregard her and move on! It's EXACTLY this mentally that has allowed Politicians to make politics a closed club that can only be accessed by the right sized wallet. Try reading behind the scenes rather than taking everything at face value!
Did you miss the bit where Colk wrote "I happen to disagree with a few of their policies"? You don't need to agree with every single policy the parties vote for. You have to make a call based on which you think are most important - no matter who you vote for there will be a sacrifice. If you genuinely think you support every single one of the Tories policies, you are either a mug in self-denial or simply voting tribally. Either way, they're very poor ways to use your tiny slice of democratic power and the latter is what got us in this mess (i.e. the Westminster crap) in the first place. I also think if you're voting tribally there's no point arguing the case for whichever party, because you clearly don't consider any alternatives. I also happen to disagree with several policies of the Greens, like a complete ban on fracking (I think there's a lot of politically motivated dishonesty around fracking so I'm not sure quite what to believe there).
We are part of the UN and rely on the many US missile defence bases if it kicks off. The Russians and Yanks have enough nukes to flatten the world 10 times over so I don't think us making more will help .
I agree with most of this except the first bit as I have witnessed at first hand something very different. My wife's family are from Bradford and there are housing estates there where hardly anyone works believe me. Case in point is my brother-in-law who hasn't worked for years and is no role model for his son who has been in and out of prison and is only now 20 years old. They do of course have a 50" TV, laptop and broadband all paid for by me and you ! A disturbance in the street warrants a mounted policeman, I kid you not !
Other countries that are non nuclear rely on our deterrent as much as we do! If we scrap our nuclear deterrent than we shall have to rely on the Frogs!
But... but... but we need an army so we can go to other countries and help the Americans ruin their lives. And we need nukes so we can feel like we have just as big cocks as the Russians and Americans. Obviously there's no point arguing with some people, they're so set in their ways that they probably don't even read whats written, just pick a few key words and roll out the usual tripe.
Is there enough jobs to ensure 100% employment in this country? No . Unless someone from abroad has a skillset that we need the vacancies should go to people born here. Without industry to support and create jobs then there will be unemployment. If someone pays tax and N I for 20 years but their company moves to Poland like Cadburys they have contributed to the system, to you they are instantly parasites that deserve to starve hard luck and all that. Yet we bail out the banks so we are all in debt but that's ok?. This is the tory mindset Warky .
This is why I'm saying there needs to be a huge over hall. Education needs to take a front seat again, it's gotten pretty awful in this country. Languages should be taught from as early an age as possible to encourage people to look for work abroad as well as here. More focus on science and technologies, as well as understanding the human condition. Less focus on business, money working and the idea that everyone is a precious snowflake. We're all in this together was the Tories tag line (Despite the fact they were lying so straight up about that it's not even funny) it's about time we started acting like that.
Rely on getting our own back by Nuking them twice as much?. Dr Strangelove springs to mind , classic film.
If the Greens ever got in we would all be taking compulsory Russian Language speaking classes after a few weeks.
Can you actually read? On the basis that Colk says that he is voting for them despite not agreeing with all their policies suggests that he doesn't believe reducing ("scrapping" is typical right-wing scare tactics language) is a big deal. Or perhaps that is not one of the policies he disagrees with. I'm not going to get into a debate about the army, but suffice to say I think there are plenty of people who perfectly legitimately believe that a reduction in the armed forces is sensible and no need for a nuclear deterrent. It's a debatable point and to suggest that it's not, as you are, is simply refusing to accept that there are other lines argument.
colk in all due respect, If she is going to make bold claims on they will do this with this money, and that with this money, then is actually quizzed on how much it will cost and she didn't have a bloody clue. Is that somebody you really want running this great country of ours?
Going off on a tangent slightly, but if you enjoy decent movies as well as fracking (niche market) the check out this movie I saw a few months ago. Very interesting watch and really gets you thinking about the place fracking has in future planning http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2091473/
Ah yes, don't back any of your arguments with facts. Just scare-monger and hope people will be as scared as you and not want the change. most of the Nordic countries don't have large standing armies. They also have incredible social programs and they are hugely wealthy and successful with far less inequality. They also haven't been invaded by Russia yet. This against harks back to the idea that the UK is a world power still. It's not. We're a hub, a centre where people can pass through. But we have no real power any more. If Russia decided to attack us we'd be relying on the Americans as much as anyone. It's all just another way of keeping control. Fear of a new war should stop anyone wanting to change the status quo. It's bloody ridiculous.
