please log in to view this image Qatar was chosen as hosts for the 2022 World Cup back in 2010 The 2022 World Cup in Qatar should take place in November and December, a Fifa taskforce has recommended. Key football officials met in Doha to discuss a number of options following fears a summer event would endanger the health of players and fans. Qatari temperatures in June and July can exceed 40 degrees centigrade. Taskforce chief Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al-Khalifa also recommended that the 2022 tournament should be shortened by a few days. But there are no plans to reduce the size of the tournament from 32 teams or 64 matches. The recommendation is expected to be ratified by the executive committee of world football's governing body next month. The news will upset some of Europe's top leagues, who preferred an April-May option to minimise disruption to their own domestic programmes. The other date under consideration was January-February, but that raised the prospect of a clash with the Winter Olympics. More to follow. Wtf?
The biggest load of **** in the history of the sport. Somebody has to pull the plug on this event, it's over Fifa's head. Big nations should start to pull out, one by one, refusing to play in the Middle East, regardless of the time of year, that region is not fit to host a huge-scale sporting event.
Should of given it to Australia, especially after a successful asian cup here where there was sell outs in the round matches. Great stadiums here too & their would've been no problem in attracting fans from all over the world. Sepp blatter was rightfully booed at the trophy ceremony but before that he did admit Australia would've been ideal to host the World Cup
Australia is only a matter of time now mate, fit to host any tournament. One of a number of nations who could host it at the drop of a hat, if the Russian's start pissing around too much it could come to that.
I agree wholeheartedly mate, seeing how much the country took on board & embraced the Asian cup was a testament to how far football has come in this country. Obviously all Aussies enjoyed seeing our boys lift the trophy but Sepp left a bitter taste in my mouth. Until he came for the final it was like he didn't have a farking clue about the game here and how much it's been embraced.. Can't wait for a WC here, even if I have to wait until I'm 80 I'll be there!
No threats. The European nations should pull out immediately, and confirm that their domestic leagues will run as normal over that period. When it then starts to threaten the likelihood of non-European players getting lucrative transfers to teams in European leagues due to their possible absence from club competition then the whole thing should fold. FIFA are a corrupt bunch of ****ers. Maybe UEFA should go it alone and withdraw from FIFA.
No clue at all why a middle east country could ever get to host the world cup, it simply doesn't have an history or any kind of infrastructure in football, also thousands of fans will turn up watch, wanting to drink alcohol, no chance in Qatar, its very restricted...but then again, money is no object over here....and we all know that Mr Blatter and his cronies, do like those brown envelopes
As football and alcohol are symbiotic to most countries fans - If you go and want to drink alcohol the procedure atm for a drinking license ( Muslim are obviously exempt ) is this Applying for an Alcohol Permit Alcohol permits are administered by the Qatar Distribution Company and application forms can be obtained at their shop. A permit must be shown to enter the shop. A letter, written in English, is needed to apply for an alcohol permit. If the letter is written in Arabic it is usually accepted if it is accompanied by a stamped translation. The letter must be addressed to the Qatar Distribution Company, be stamped and signed by an authorised person within the company, and include the following information: The applicant's position within their company The applicant's basic salary. The word 'basic' must be used. To get a permit a minimum salary is needed (4,000 riyals or 1,100 US dollars) Whether the applicant receives an accommodation entitlement or has free accommodation Whether the applicant is married When applying for a permit an individual must fill in an application form, pay a returnable deposit and state their religion The following additional documents are also required: A passport, or equivalent identification (a photocopy is acceptable) A residence permit (a photocopy is acceptable) http://qatar.angloinfo.com/lifestyle/food-and-drink/liquor-licence/ this is an informative article Qatar Vows To Be 'Creative' With Alcohol At 2022 World Cup But Offers No Guarantee http://uk.businessinsider.com/qatar-alcohol-gay-fans-world-cup-2014-11#ixzz3SeqSWMFq If by any chance you're a football fan, a alcoholic and happen to be gay too then your ****ed ! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_rights_in_Qatar
They should do, but won't. They're just as gutless!! I'd like to see one of the european FIFA nominees, like Figo, say that he'd support a UEFA boycott and set up their own competition in '22. See what sort of support he'd get from national F.A.s across europe.
All UEFA need to do is propose an alternative and see which countries agree. That`s not difficult surely. Blatter won`t like it of course as he might have to give back some of his `donations`. All the more reason I reckon.
I would imagaine they would have backing PL, La Liga, Ligue 1, Bundesliga and Serie A. Get this European super league sorted then as well. On the flip side, with all the disruption in 2022, the league title could be anyones.
I reckon the only way it could be done for the Premier League clubs to accommodate would be to start the PL season at the mid/end of July halt at the end of October - resume the beginning of January and finish in June
It can't be played in the summer, that's a given. In which case the bid should be started again and awarded to a nation that can host it during the traditional period. Otherwise don't ****ing go to it. The bid itself was ****ing dodgy and the way Qatar are going about getting ready for it is worse, **** health and safety conditions for workers deprived of human rights. What a ****ing farce
